Shop owner 'spanked boy who made parrot swear'

A shop owner has been charged with assault for spanking a boy who he claims tried to teach a parrot to swear.

William Soper, who keeps eight pet parrots at his Clock World store in Statesville, North Carolina, says he was just defending his property.

He says one of the parrots, Sparky, began using expletives for the first time when a nine-year-old boy was at the store last month.

Soper says the boy and his 12-year-old brother were also spitting on the six-year-old female green-wing parrot. The boys deny it.

Soper says he grabbed the nine-year-old by the shirt, spanked him and told both boys to stay away if they couldn't behave. Their mother called police.

If convicted, Soper could face up to 60 days in jail and a fine.

Good for him, more kids need to be beaten these days. True problem is the parents who do not do a decent job raising the kids in the first place.

This is very true. But is it his right to disclipine them? He could've said something to the mother if the mother was there! And told her to leave and never come back or something. It is better than spending 60 days in jail!

on the other hand i also think the store owner did the right thing..

i mean it's the states isn't it? the mother should be glad the store owner didn't blow the kid's brains out with his shotgun.

I know the kid was a brat for doing it, but the shop owner is wrong.

If someone would beat my kids.. I would not call the police...I would proceed to beat the shit out of them myself...I am sure some kids do need a good asswhooping...mine do occasionally, but when someone else does it..its a whole different story.

You have to understand these webmasters.
They say extreme things, no one means "BEAT"
and the article did not say the store owner Beat the child.
He simple spanked the child, Yes I think he shuld of told the parents once first.
My bet is, he is so tired of brats in the store, and parents doing nothing, he decided to do it himself.

But hey, he is the bad guy, for doing something the parents should of done, becasue he snapped,

some guy can rob or kill someone get off, becasue he had a hard life.... LOL

You guys all have really good valid points that the kid needed some sort of punishment.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE...... The shop owner didn't have the right to touch that kid at all, and the LAW will DEAL with him HARSHLY.

I think the Law should deal with the real criminals first.
