Tell WIRED NEWS about Acacia

Noah Shachtman, with Wired News, here again. I'm looking into the Acacia suits. And I'd like to hear from you guys.

- Has your company been approached by Acacia? If so, what has been your response?
- What will happen to your business, if Acacia wins?
- What do you think of companies that have already settled with Acacia?

ACACIA would be a much better story than stupid deepsy.

Brown Bear 07-10-2003 05:58 AM

Dear ______:

Acacia Media Technologies Corporation owns a portfolio of patents dating back to 1991 covering content delivery methods such as video on demand, audio on demand, and video streaming on the Internet. It has recently come to our attention that you are using products and selling services in connection with these delivery methods that utilize technology covered by our patents. Our patents include U.S. patent Nos. 5,132,992; 5,235,275; 5,550,863; 6,002,720; 6,144,702; and an open continuation.

Acacia devlops technologies in the media field, and we have significant experience in licensing technologies and enforcing patents. We request that you immediately contact your patent lawyer and examine your current and future product and service offerings relative to this patent portfolio. Acacia is prepared to license these patents on reasonable terms to you, and we would like to schedule a meeting with you to discuss a license. I look forward to your prompt reply.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Berman

I was tempted to wipe my ass with it and send it back to them by registered mail, but I figured that would only put me higher up on the list of adult companies they decide to sue next.

So far I've done nothing but watch the drama unfold. I don't think ACACIA will be able to maintain this patent extortion of theirs, but it will have to play itself out in the courts first, and in the end the only winners will be the lawyers working on both sides. Yay!

Oh yeah, we'd be happy to tell you all about Acacia... so you can twist and manipulate the story to your own satisfaction. I just love it how you end the last tale by basically stating, "Deepsy was owed money by these people", then go on to portray the adult industry as some kind of Mafia. Perhaps you should remember who is the bad guy here.

As for the straight-from-a-tabloid-newspaper wording, well that's just fantastic. You managed to throw in "smut-slingers", "porn purveyors", "lowbrow", "scoffed" and a few others. Here are some new ones for your next story - "perverted", "sick", "disgusting", and "everyone involved with online smut slinging jerks off to child porn and rapes little boys". One last thing - be sure to end the story in Acacia's favor.

You'll probably do more harm to the cause than good. Get lost dipshit, go write for The Sun or something.

I disagree....I think he only wrote what he saw.... BP4L is styled after a mafia...albeit a strangely marketed one.

I thought the deepsy story was good, and the "mafia" angle was accurate to a certain extent.

There are people in this industry who were in pretty bad financial position's years ago. Now their internet business has kept them out of the hamburger greese pits..... The very business Deepsy threatens to disable.

If he ever takes out the wrong site and his identity should ever surface, there's trouble. May as well have a gangbanger after you.
