Haha, that's funny. I just got into a pissing match with my roommate because her Mother has been trying to get us to go to the Church of Scientology. My roommate went, I refused calling them a "bunch of crackpots" and a "cult". Anyone looking for a roommate in the Kansas City area? If my current roommate keeps up with this Scientology shit, one of us is leaving. The scary part is she actually came back from the meeting and tried to convince me that "some of the things they said really made sense".

The results of applying their oversimplified and inapplicable rules in life is to lose the ability to think rationally and logically. A person loses the ability to think for themselves and so they lose the ability to challenge incorrect ideas. This makes them easier to control. It also isolates and alienates the person from society so that they withdraw from normal society and into their "Scientology" society. This further increases their susceptibility to the influence of their group.
Replace the word "scientology" with "christianity" or "islam" and the same would hold true.

Religion = brainwashing

The Hubbardites scare me far more than the Taliban or Southern Baptists.

Edit: (Hubbardites = Scientologists, by the way.)

At least Christianity and Islam don't serve the goal of enriching one man and his direct followers

I believe at one time it did. Jesus realized early on that it was alot easier to carry his travelling roadshow from town to town where hundreds of people would provide him (and his followers) with good food and shelter as long as he put on his show for them, then it was off to the next town where they would perform all over again. Yay!

It sure beats toiling in the fields under the hot sun to make a living back in those days.

If people today can be influenced into following cults and wacky religions, just think how much easier it would have been to mold peoples thinking 2000 years ago? Sheeple a plenty! Wooo hooo! :thumbsup

That would be Lensman. With 4 posts, and no custom title, I doubt this is anybody.

Brown Bear 07-07-2003 10:42 AM

The fact that people believe BangBus and The Blair Witch Project are real says alot about humans ability to believe what they're told without questioning it.

Anybody seen the movie "Wag The Dog"?

Humans are scary because their thinking can be manipulated very easily.

hottoddy 07-07-2003 10:53 AM

I doubt you'd find many Scientologists on the GFY BB. They are all over on the Daily Variety BB.

Xenu.com has been around for a long time. The COS has sued them many times.

L. Ron Hubbard once said that if a man truly wanted to become rich, he would create a religion.

tomax 07-07-2003 12:23 PM

Scientology, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism...

same shit just different names.

Then you should also be amazed that christianity and islam have lasted this long too. Scientology isn't the first, and it won't likely be the last religion/cult.
