Swinger hails judge's decision

MONTREAL -- Swingers clubs will start springing up across Canada after a Montreal judge who convicted five swingers ruled their activities are not necessarily illegal, the head of a Quebec swingers association said Friday.

Municipal court Judge Denis Boisvert found five people guilty of swinging-related offences, but he said in his judgment that "contemporary Canadian society tolerates swinging and swingers clubs if the sexual acts take place in private."

Jean Hamel, president of the 8,000-member Quebec Swingers Association, predicted Boisvert's ruling released Friday will have national ramifications.

"This judgment will affect all of Canada," Hamel said in an interview. "I don't think more clubs will open in Quebec but I think it will open doors for other places in Canada like Toronto, where they didn't have any clubs with sexual activities on premises.

Interesting, however having been to several swingers clubs in Canada that did allow sexual interaction (AS LONG AS THERE WAS NO ALCOHOL PRESENT!) things were already on the up and up. I guess they just got a ruling that told them what everyone already knew..

HUH?? Where do you see anyone winning in this case?? I happen to be a "swinger" in Montreal, and this is what we didn't want to see.

Michel & Brigette's club was raided, charged, and Brigette and her father (Denis, who owned the building) lost the case! They were after full acquittal! They ended up guilty of running a common bawdy house.

This is a blow to swingers in Canada, Hamel & Corbeil (2 obvious idiots, they are both lawyers after all) are trying to put some sort of spin in their favor.

I put money into the defence fund for this, and as far as I, and alomst all other "swingers" in Montreal are concerened, this set us back a number of years.

I guess we swingers have to learn who to pay off in government!

The first swing club I ever went to was in Edmonton! I was born and raised there, in the Beverley area :)

I lived in Beverley, Claireview and Castledowns (I'm no longer sure of my spelling though)

All my family still lives there ;)

Carol, we have talked....several years ago!
Beverly is nasty now. Full of native gangs. Swing clubs are all over the place here! Not as free as Montreal, probably, but they have regular parties unabated, and left alone by cops!

pOOp, there was a large native population in Beverly when I grew up there (47st. - 119 ave.). We were there last September, and I was surprised at how much it had been cleaned up.

I agree with CarolCox. Somewhere in the ruling text, it stipulate that you can't have more than ten people present in the same place. How the fuck people going to swing with less ten 10 people? This new ruling is very confusing
