Schwarzenegger: California is like Iraq

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_796910.html

Ladies and gentleman, the next governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger:

"It is really wild driving around here, I mean the poverty, and you see there is no money, it is disastrous financially and there is the leadership vacuum, pretty much like in California right now."

wtf....you do realize he is about to be "elected" through a gross mainpulation of democracy. this is no joke.

Brown Bear 07-04-2003 10:25 AM

Ronald Reagan and Jesse Ventura got elected, I don't see why Arnold wouldn't. Nothing should surprise you anymore.

They got in through a real election....not through the sour grapes of a few well-heeled financial backers who have figured out how to manipulate political office.

No shit! Gray Davis is the worst governor California has ever had! He fucking sucks! It's so bad, they're trying to get him recalled, they have over 900,000 signatures to put it on the ballot in November. Arnold Schwarzenegger would be welcomed with open arms, but California has a huge debt, I think he'd had a really hard time sorting it out as someone that has never been in office.

MrPopup 07-04-2003 10:45 AM

To suggest that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fine candidate to help California deal with their myriad of problems is quite absurd.

I never said he would be a fine candidate, I said "I think he'd had a really hard time sorting it out as someone that has never been in office." BUT people DO like him and if he ran, I wouldn't be surprised to see him elected.

MegaPussy 07-04-2003 10:55 AM

It was the power companies who crippled California with billions in outstanding loans they had to float since the Fed would give no help, they put the state in a worse financial crisis than one man. With the Federal government scaling back aid to states it's no shock that CA is in trouble. The de-regulation of CA power companies that caused the mess was a decidedly conservative law.

It's a shame they took down eGray: http://news.com.com/2100-1017-956968.html?tag=fd_top

In Ahnold's defense I heard him on Stern and he's an interesting and relatively well-spoken guy. I think that quote is pretty lousy, overall I got a better sense of him on the show. Do I think he's governor material? Well no comment on the past few governers who have made it all the way to the White House, but I'd say that Arnold is no worse or better than they are. I like his candor compared to most politicians, but I think as a celeb trying to promote new movies, etc. you can't help but go places where they will try to pick you apart.

Arnold is married to a Kennedy relative.

If you live in California, then don't vote for him when the time comes.

I personally think Arnie will make a great Governor. He has a strength of character and personal integrity that can be trusted. He's highly intelligent, his promotion of fitness in schools across America and his active support of worthwhile causes has shown him to be a man of the people. I'm sure he won't be out of touch with the real issues Californians face when he runs his election campaign.

I'd vote for him. Hell, I've said before I think he would make a great president too.

You feel this way because you think Arnold is stupid, but where is your proof of that. He has a thick Austrian accent and muscles and to you that makes him stupid. Show me a test score or something that he failed at. He didn't fail at making himself rich and he created a shit load of jobs when he made his "stupid" movies. All the other people in the film and on the set are getting paid too. The people at the movie theater serving you popcorn are getting paid too. How many jobs did Gray Davis create?
Politicians that look smart and don't produce anything are useless. People are voting for a stereo-type politician and they are being shocked by them doing nothing.
People want something done these days and they are starting to look at what a person can do rather than how the person looks.

KRL 07-04-2003 11:36 AM

California was built on dreams and it still runs on dreams. That's half the problem with LaLa Land.

I never met so many hype bs'rs in my life as when I was out there.

The president must be a "natural born citizen"; just ask Kissinger
why he never ran for prez.
He was born in Israel.

I can't believe Californians are standing for this shit.

I could undertsand if he worked thru the ranks(council, mayor, etc.) but to just shoot for the stars is laughable, but like somebody with the right financial backers he would win....this shit is funny though

Xplicit 07-04-2003 12:48 PM

He couldn't be worse than Davis

ozzymandius 07-04-2003 12:49 PM

Arnold is actually a pretty sharp guy. Don't let the accent and muscles fool you into thinking he is a lunk head.

He as an MBA and ran a number of successful businesses in the 1970s before hitting it big in movies. He knows how to market himself and he does project a level of integrity that is sadly lacking in most politicians.

Of course he will probably get corrupted once he is in office.

And what a great re-election slogan:

"I'll be back!"

:thumbsup

loverboy 07-04-2003 01:03 PM

with his popularity ratings up, would someone even dare to challenge him during the election?

Mr.Fiction 07-04-2003 01:03 PM

Bush and the power companies that fund him are responsible for many of California's current financial problems. The catastrophic Bush economy has destroyed the economies of many states, actually. It is very likely that the entire fake power crisis was planned as a way to undermine Davis while making even more money for Bush's donors.

Beyond that, what's going on in California should scare the shit out of anyone who believes in a government of the people. If you look at the way this whole recall is being done, it's all based strictly on money and partisanship, nothing to do with Davis' job performance or anything else.

There are far more Democrats in California than there are Republicans and it only takes 900,000 signatures for a recall. Two days after some loser Republican steals the office, Democrats can just recall him or her. Then the Republicans can do the same thing again, then Democrats can do another recall, and the cycle continues. Thus, the State of California becomes a banana Republic just like Florida, because of the actions of some corrupt rich far right Republicans.

The outdated recall rules were never meant as a way to overturn a legal election, but that's what they're being used for. This is going to cost Californians a lot of money, and it's going to cost a lot more than money in the long run. Republicans are fucking the state worse than Davis ever did.

goBigtime 07-04-2003 01:07 PM

Someone from GFY should be elected governor of California.

The the person could start a thread like....

"Hey I got electected Governor of Cali... what should I do?"

And then we could all work it out. :)

If nothing else it would be good for a free XBOX.

Good idea. I retract my comments about the recall. :)

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-04-2003 01:09 PM

I am not Republican but I would Vote for Arnold, just for the laughing stock of opportunity in political speeches and media press.

Arnold what is best in life?

"Crush your enemies! See them driven before you! See to the inheritance of the women!"

Also he is Married to a Kennedy. Think about that.

Arnold how to you propose to bring unemployed people back to the work place?

"Chrom!"

Whats your position on Abortion?

"Chrom!"

How do you propose we handle terrorism in the state of California?

"You took my fathers sword! You killed my mother! You killed my poeple!"

It didn't have anything to do with the stock market swings over the past 10 years? :1orglaugh

Trillions of dollars exchanged hands (and owners).

All the underwriters and analysts get together and robbed most of the world of their savings in broad daylight.

"Strong buy target $290!" :1orglaugh ..... all the while they're dumping all they have as the people panic trying to get it before it goes to 290.00... or the same in reverse. They advise you to sell because they want to buy. :1orglaugh

Nah that didn't hurt the economy at all. Having all the mom and pop's money deposited into the bank accounts of the people who already had 10 zeros.

Scams everywhere. That's why were fucked. Because nobody gives a shit anymore - it's all about the paper.

I read somewhere that were constantly destroying TONS of perfectly good food and grains to protect the value of the commodity markets... boy that's cool.

I see what you're saying about the recall though.

Maybe I'll go and read the points/facts being made by both sides... I'm sure they both have websites with the quick little mudslingers breakdown of why each one should be stopped :)

If you're going to quote Arnie, get it right.

Two people on this thread have now pointed out about who he is married to. Why? Who gives a shit if he's married to Maria Shriver? Big deal. Would she not make for a great politician's wife? Hello? Fuckers and your innuendo.

If Arnie performs well as Governor, I wouldn't be surprised if a way was found to run him for President. I'd consider moving to the US early enough to get my voting status if that was to happen. Muhahahaaa..... hey, the guy is smart, driven, dedicated, and honest. I know many people who have met the man, some know him and the Misses quite well even. They all say the same thing.

Before anyone bashes Arnold they should go read about Proposition 49 that passed last year... A proposition for needy children and an afterschool program

I can't wait for Arnold to run for office so all the P.A.'s he's sexually harassed over the years can all go on Dateline and 20/20.

holy god you're a fucking moron. I moved to Nevada to get AWAY from Grey-out davis! He has lied to the people of california SO MANY TIMES it makes me SICK! He lied publicly about the states financial shape last election and has been called on it. When people mention it he just says "next question" and looks away! LOSER!

When it comes to bush... Look you democrat loser... you liberal fucks are acting just like Japan did after WWII. They act like NOTHING happened that would make us nuke them. like they werent going to sent 10 year olds out to the beaches to fight us with sticks. You just see the economy, and it pleases you to blame everything on bush. I guess you REALLY believed on 9/11 when you saw the MAJOR ECONOMIC CENTER of the US blow up that one president was going to COMPLETELY recover the economy from TRILLIANS of dollars lost in one term. well to you: "Go fuck yourself" and screw your sister too.

Ok, on a PERSONAL note.. I went to Cal Arts in Valencia for 2 years. the first time I went was under pete wilson. He started an arts scholarship program that made it possible for me to go almost for free. jackass davis came in and canceled the program so I ended up having to pay 8k the second year. soooo. the rep. helped me, and the DEM turned off the power :)

I dont know I suppose.. Im just figuring that if bush would have NOT gone after the terrorists, he would have been ripped apart for being a pussy. Bush cant win... now on that note he drives me nuts... I dont really like him, but I despise gore and think clinton was a pile of human waste... I also dont like blair, or actually ANYONEs leaders... wait. the King of Tonga is kinda cool hes a big motherfucker too...

here's the point. Bush is a little boy doing his best with a lot of people pushing him around. I PRAY hes not reelected, but I'd rahter have him for a thousand years than gore for 6 months.

One of the guys I know fairly well that was (and still is) quite close with the Schwarzeneggers is Jesse Ventura. Jesse used to come down to my brother's gym once a month back in the 80's, while he was still wrestling and just getting into movies. He talked about Arnie to me at length. I'm telling you, nobody tells a story about ANYTHING like Jesse does. I was very happy to see his success in politics, as will I be happy for Arnie when his time comes. Both of them are the kind of guys that intend to do the right thing, and they do what they say they'll do.

I sort of like that in a polititian.
