Traffic Question

Lets say you purchased 10,000 hits. Lets say their admin stats say they sent them to you in just a few hours. Lest say also that when checking your server logs you find the advertised url was only requested 1,007 times in the same time period.

Did I get fucked?

Or

Was it an honest mistake?

Or

Would you expect them to return an email?

That is more than one question but can server stats and a traffic sellers legit numbers be that far off?

Xplicit 07-04-2003 12:27 AM

Sounds like you got fucked to me. :2 cents:

netstarz 07-04-2003 12:39 AM

That is my first thought too but I am holding out judgment for a while because they post on here everyday. IT could have been a mistake.

Mr Pheer 07-04-2003 01:15 AM

sacX 07-04-2003 02:28 AM

Well, i'd say its possible the stats software they're using is tracking differently than what your stats software is tracking. For example, lets say yours is tracking only unique surfers, but theres is tracking pageviews, reloads, etc.... That would cause a difference in stat numbers. Email them and ask them what their stats mean by "hits". The majority of webmasters use "hits" and "uniques" interchangeably, but there is definitely a big difference.

That could be true, but like you say most traffic brokers I know off sell unique hits, and obviously thats what you want, not getting uniques would not be good, but send him a mail, most brokers wont fuck you over for traffic, as we all relly on people buying more, there isnt much proffit in 10k so we all want people to re order, i doubt he has fucked you over for 10k

netstarz 07-04-2003 08:05 AM

The stats they gave me access to showed both uniques and raw.

The 10,000 were uniques with 14663 raw

My 1,007 number would be raw requests to my server with 531 being unique visitors to that page according to the server.

Hey MrPheer if this just happened to you too is could be a problem with their script or something. I am hoping so anyway.

I did send an email. No reply yet. It is the holiday weekend so I don't hold tha against them yet. They have however had time to post on here in the meantime.

10,000 is a VERY small amount but this is exactly why I buy the smallest package the first time. Traffic buying is risky as hell it seems.

Thanks for you help.

If it's exit traffic for example, it's not very likely that it will carry a referer.
But if it's clicked, then it's sounds pretty screwed up.

Reak 07-04-2003 08:19 AM

exit traffic stinks.. :(

netstarz 07-04-2003 09:55 AM

Some of it was supposed to be exit for sure. Even if it were all exit I would imagine the server stats would show requested files from the page load even if a referring IP didn't show. All the related files such as images and CSS are consistent with the 1,000 or so loads.

Live and learn I guess.

OMG Wake up my friend and realize you have some of the biggest scam artist on the planet posting their great offerings here.

Thor 07-04-2003 11:44 AM

are you sure that your server wasnt down i nthe middle:)

netstarz 07-04-2003 12:06 PM

All of my other domains on the same server were just fine. And other files in fact on that domain even were loading during that period.

I know scammers are on this board! lol I have already been through a few.

It really isn't a big deal at all because of the extremely small size of the order. It was just a test.

I just won't spend any more there.

thanks for the replies.

chowda 07-04-2003 12:09 PM

im glad you have this resolved... hopefully, u can stop with the lets say ok?

ravo 07-04-2003 01:07 PM

I know I'm coming to this thread a little late, but there is something wrong with those numbers. 10K delivered, and only 1K rec'd is not right. When we sell exit traffic the "drop-off" percentage is anywhere between 15% and 30%; a lot depends on the target page and server.

I'd get in touch with the broker, and find out what the problem may be. If they don't respond in a timely fashion, I'd be very wary of them.

WendyB: I hope that you are not tarring *all* traffic brokers with the same brush; there as some very good and honest traffic brokers here.

Netstarz: I feel bad for you. If you place a small order with us, I'll throw in an extra 10K, as a token of my appreciation for your order. See http://www.fpctraffic2.com/buy.html

and don't forget that your traffic counter may not be in real-time.

I know our Webalizer stats have a few hours lag.

pimplink 07-04-2003 03:05 PM

Depends on how they define "hits"
