i have a question i want to ask an amish person about their lifestyle, but i'm not in amish country :(

so anyways, i'm just curious what decides what technology is "ok" and what isn't (ok, in all seriousness i'd like to know this)? i mean.. i dunno.. just kinda wierd. like, it's a religion and all, but it's like "we're going to stay in this point of time and nobody else exists!"

there are different sects of amish. there are some amish who drive nice cars....it all depends on where they are from.
go to lancaster PA and you will see all different kinds.
it isnt about technology...it's about not needing the things that you and i think we cant live without.
i respect the amish....they are good people.

but....times are changing....the youth are growing up differently. some are leaving...and others have decided they dont want to live that lifestyle anymore.
just last year i think there was a big drug bust here where a couple amish kids were arrested for trafficing kilos of cocaine.

it's up to the men actually....the elders if you will.
i can drive down the road here a few miles and come across several horse and buggies going down the road....but i could also drive the opposite direction and pull up next to an amish couple in a nice car.

oh, and i could imagine living the amish lifestyle. i think it would be peaceful and very content. imagine not having to deal with the worlds bullshit?

until the neighbors start leaving their beer cans in your yard, playing their music too loud, and sicking their rot-weiler on you.

Exactly, and while for some it may reaffirm their lifestyle, for others of them Im sure its a huge temptation. And dont forget that they are mad religious, so this temptation is tantamount to damnation if they give in to it. Its like a constant struggle between living your boring life or giving in to satan. Thats stress.

i can understand why the amish youth are leaving their parents ways behind, and i feel bad for them.

it might be an incredible temptation, but then again imagine what a change that would be. that alone might be enough to scare them back to their amish life. people resist change.

unlike my ex, i generally have a pretty strong willpower when i want to. but i couldn't become AMISHMAN from the life i live now. the shock would probably kill me.

You could be born amish then that would be all you knew.

if amish included smoking weed, eating mushrooms, and living in the woods chillen i would be all for it. but i don't know how i feel about all this barn rasiing, up at the crack of dawn working shit.
