This is fucking unreal...
So there was this killer thunderstorm last night.. It was RIGHT over us and there were strikes all around... Our montor blew up among other things (the storm was THAT intense, these things were "protected"). Anyways we go about our business today and get home, our neighbour knocks on the door and asks if we cut our tree. No... So we go out back. A 250 year old maple tree we had in our back yard was hit (it is about 10 feet from our back door). To give you an idea, this thing is well over 4 feet in diameter, and it's well over three stories high... If it would have come back it would have demolished my bedroom with me in it.. If it fell to one side it would have hit our shed and demolished it. The other side it would have smashed the neighbour's art gallery. Instead, it fell towards the woods, THANK GOODNESS. The stump is all scorched and that.. it's freaky as hell. I took pictures and I'll upload them later :)
Needless to say the hunt for a monitor has decreased my productivity some (as jact and I am forced to share the system until we can get a proper replacement, he has a little piece of crap right now not suitable for image editing), but hopefully we can get one sent out here to hickville soon! :) |
and hunt for a good UPS while you're at it :)
it's the only thing that can trap lightning. |
That's........ intense. Glad the monster tree didn't crush your house.
Hey, I thought your nearest neighbor was like 5 miles away? Oh yeah... did you move to civilization recently? I forget. |
I was just going to say that..then I read it..I took pictures..
gl with the tree though.. :glugglug |
like whoa!
Im glad your safe :thumbsup |
We had something similar a few weeks ago.
We were driving home from our office and saw a firetruck at the neighbors. We stopped in and they told us that a bolt of lightning struck the hay barn and crushed it, melting some of the metal roof and starting a fire. So we drove to our house and found that the well pump had been zapped... We believe it was the same strike due to the fact that there were no marks around the house from a strike. The really scarry thing is that we are over 900 ft from the neighbors property... !!!! That is a long fucking way! |
You live in Kelowna or Penticton or something?
We at least had rain with ours in the Mainland, but I heard the interior was just going to have dry lightning. Everytime I would go camping Penticton it would have the craziest lightning storms I have ever seen. The ones where for a split second everything would be like it was day light and branches breaking of right near my tent and so on. EDIT: look on your power bar waranty for sure, if it is still valid you can get up to $5000 reinbursed, but they are probably bastards, and you will probably have to fight for months to get it. |
Glad you are O.K.!
:angel |
wow thats scary!
I am glad to hear everything is ok. lucky it fell the right direction, but more importantly... glad you are all safe! |
Sounds crazy... I'd love to see the pics of the tree.
Thank god it fell the 'right' way. |
Thanks for the best wishes.. I'm glad it fell the right way too! And the powerbar might still be under warrenty, but it's not worth it. We'll just ante up $500 for a new monitor or something.. It's a bitch getting them delivered up here. We have the chainsaw now though so we're gonna start taking that bitch apart pretty soon :)
