Buchanan on Iraq: "Why are we still here?"
Even the ultra-right want out.
*********************** http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=33326 Why are we still here? "What are we getting into here?" asked the sergeant from the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division, stationed north of Baghdad. "The war is supposed to be over, but every day we hear of another soldier getting killed. Is it worth it? Saddam isn't in power anymore. The locals want us to leave. Why are we still here?" The questions that sergeant put to a Washington Post reporter are ones our commander in chief had better begin to address. For less than three months after the fall of Baghdad, we have lost almost as many men in Iraq as we did in three weeks of war. One U.S. soldier is now dying there every day. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=33326 |
Being there now is far more justified than going in to begin with. Leave it to a conservative to be okay with ousting the leader, but not wanting the responsibility of rebuilding the country. The world could get a lot messier if Iraq didn't get a reasonable government and infrastructure before we pulled out.

ofcourse, the ultra-right like the war, not the peacekeeping process... Wasnt it Bush's message during the campaign... lets stop playing cops and peacekeepers all over the world? |

Russians occupied Afghanistan, and were getting killed daily by snipers and patriots attack ( supported and funded BTW by the US = Bin Laden). You occupy a country = you have soldiers dying daily till you leave. |
Afghanistan became a mess after that war ended. Let's not make a sequel

The Russians were out, so the Americans didn't see the need to spend any $$$$ there. Local warlords took over ( and still are there ), Bin Laden got pissed at the US and started his Jihad, and so on... But, with my senile memory, i thought that at one time there was an organisation ( neutral) sending peacekeepers in troubled area... Probably an hallucination of my part .... |
They call it a Quagmire
It happened in Vietnam, it's happening in Afghanastan, and now it's happening in Iraq... But hey, this whole mess was deliberated on before... "To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day hero ... assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an un-winnable urban guerilla war. It could only plunge that part of the world into even greater instability." George H. W. Bush, 1998 |
Wait. You mean to tell me that the Iraqi people dont want us there?
Thats not true. I saw the parades. I saw the Iraqi children rush out into the streets during the liberation and throw home made cards and flowers at their great white liberators. |
