Have you ever tried Elance?
 

Just wondering if anyone here has ever tried to buy or sell services on Elance.com? If so what has been your experience?

I've heard good and bad stories. Watch out for the foreign programmers, they'll quote one price and then start working and then keep trying to make excuses why it will now cost more.

what exactly are you looking for?

i've had good experiences with Elance. No.......Scriptlance, i always get the two mixed up.

Only problem i ever had was agreeing to pay a $2,000 job via Western Union - i had no idea Western Union was so expensive, cost me almost $500 to send the money.

Don't take the lowest bid, find a guy who has good English skills.

that's just rediculous... I payed WU $90 fees for a $1500 transfer

BrettJ, just looking for some feedback in general. I have some projects I'm thinking about posting on there and possibly bidding on some as well.

It looks good from the outside, but there is a lot you cant do until you signup and start paying, so I just wanted to get some honest feedback from some adult webmasters.

I have found few Eastern European programmers with very reasonable prices. Every project has been completed before dead line. Simply not a bad word to say about eLance

Anyone ever tried to sell their services on Elance?

I bought a custom script from elance. I was very pleased with the end result.. I paid $150 for the script.

the problem with these services is finding a person who can do quick turnaround.

It's not bad. Just stay away from the idiots in India.

I hate to read generalizations just like most other people, but unfortunately, my experience agrees with your conclusion. Im sure there are quick and diligent producers in India, I just haven't run across them. :(

it seems that the feedback is very important to the providers....thus....they will really give a good effort....check the portfolio....send some emails to completed projects....and open dialog via message boards with the final 3 or 4 you choose...

A while ago I was bidding on some projects there but there's always someone who will do it for less money :( I guess that's good for the buyer though.
