Best virus scanner?

Ehm... I haven't had a virus since highschool (monkey virus hehe) -- but recently I started downloading suspicious files again... so is Norton the best?

Norton is shit. Anything that bears the Norton name is bound to suck. Panda is the only way to go

I've been using McAfee for years. A lot of people say Norton has a slight edge, but I think they both will do the job for you.

Brad Mitchell 06-30-2003 12:07 AM

Bar none, the free version of AVG

Easy, clean - this shit just works.

avg, i just got it last week and i love it. it's the only one that doesn't take control of your computer.

Used McAfee for years until had some minor conflict issues with the first version of XP Pro so been using Norton ever since.

McAfee or Norton + Eudora and never had a virus problem so far despite getting several hundred emails a day.

arial 06-30-2003 01:04 AM

I'm a McAfee fan.

Norton 2003 :)

TheFLY 06-30-2003 06:32 AM

If norton gives me any problems I'll come back here and try some others... I was kindof wondering if Norton would slow down my PC -- you would think that to protect you it would have to do some kind of disk write interruption stuff which would slow things down, but maybe not... It doesn't seem to be using any resources when it's idle...

wizz 06-30-2003 07:02 AM

Norton I donīt think it would slow too much
I used it for years and had no virus problems:winkwink:

Porndealer 06-30-2003 07:12 AM

I use PC-cillin by Trend Micro, no problems yet :)

Sosa 06-30-2003 08:54 AM

Here at the computer shop I work at we have noticed that AVG will miss a lot of viruses or won't be able to remove them. Norton runs like shit on everything I have used it on. Slows shit down all the time. my-etrust you might not have heard of, but used to be known as innoculate IT.

Very handy
