We have a smoking ban in Boston and it sucks. Places aren't as busy as they used to be, everything is dead.

I talked to a bartender and he was telling me that he's probably seen a 30% decrease in business.

Good, Smoke outside so you only harm yourself and not others.

I dont notice a decrease in biz anywhere though.
Most businesses have adapted and either created a
outdoor patio, or a smoking room.
Still sucks though. Winey ass non-smokers.

I dont smoke anymore so I dont care, but it's looking like smoking ban = much less money.

If non smoking establishments were profitable the club owners would be doing it on their own.

That's what's cool about California that a lot clubs have outdoor patios, we dont have them here, theres no room for them.

Just that some smokers drive me nuts the way they think they can smoke around other people and not even think about it.

Seems ok to smoke in bars, but to me, it seems unhealthy to have smoking in a restaurant

They could easily make a rule such as, if an establishment derives more than 51% of its profit from alcohol, then its a bar, smoking allowed... otherwise its a restaurant, and they could have a patio or other outside area where people could eat and also smoke.

Had a smoking ban here for about 2 years.Bars just build a seperate room with a exhaust system.It is just accepted as the norm now.

I was at a club this past Fri night, the Palace, and upstairs was a fairly good sized room, with a full bar, dance floor, dj everything, and there was no roof, so you could smoke, and there were more people there, than downstairs.

When I lived in NY, they just imposed the 7.00/pack cig prices and were trying to pass the non smoking in public building law then, not sure if it ever passed though.

Smoking in restaurants has been banned in Victoria (Australia) for about a year now. I think it was more recently that it was also banned at the casino - the difference is amazing, I can stay in there for an hour and not come out with my clothes reeking of smoke...

Mexico is good about NOT banning those kinda things.

We were supposed to be getting one here starting Tuesday, but it got delayed until at least September. No smoking in places where kids are allowed is fine, that's the way it is now. But no smoking in bars, casinos and lounges is just stupid.

I got to admit, I love going to the bars out here and Cali and not having my eyes burn the entire nights from people smoking. That coupled with the fact that I don't smell like ASS from all the smoke makes the smoking ban here in cali alright by me.

On the other hand I do think that bars should have a smoking area. If places are really losing business like you say, you will see them come up with an inovative solution to create a place for smokers. Its simple economics.

instead reading all of the smokers bitching and complaining.. i'm a non smoker and its quite nice to have a smoking ban. there will be one in my area soon.. there was a ban recently around here and when i go there its awesome, when people from there come here they are grossed out by the smoking when they are eating and stuff... its rather gross when some chump lights on up and puts this gayass smile on his face like he's kingshit or something and stinks up the place and my clothes

In my country, there are smoking bans in restaurants.. unless dining outdoors.. though there is a push to ban smoking everywhere pretty much.. doesn't bother me though cos I don't smoke :winkwink:

The casinos along with most bars and lounges are going to keep allowing people to smoke, ash trays and all. If some jackass is "tough" enough to pick a fight with me over it, he'll either get his ass kicked or get thrown in jail.

That's BS. Most reports I've read from areas with smoking bans have stated that there is little if any loss of patronage.

People that regularly go out to bars are gonna keep going to the bars. People who like to go out to eat will continue to do so. Staying at home because you can't puff your little paper tubes really IS a whiny ass thing to do.

Whatever tough boy. I can see it happening though. If there is a "Ban" in effect, someone somewhere will eventually call out a smoker for violating it. Most people that want to cave your fucking head in really don't give two shits about "going to jail" either.


Bottom line is something is being started. It might take until the fall for it to be effective, but it's coming. There will come a day when I can go have an evening out and not come home stinking like *your* cigarettes. When that day finally comes, I'm a gonna love it.
