NVIDIA GeForce? FX 5900 Ultra 256MB

my buddy heard that geforce specifically optimized their new card to perform better on the benchmark tests.

have you heard about this?

would you recommend the card anyway?

$560 though. I will wait a few months until the inevitable price drop.

Yes that's true. What they did was if you have a program called 3dmark.exe which is the premier benchmarking program installed on your PC, it automatically optimizes the card to perform better on the benchmark but lose other features. If you rename 3dmark.exe to something else .exe and then run it again, the card drops in performance by about 15%. It's not worth the money anyway unless you game at over 1600x1200 resolution. Can't believe nVidia had to resort to cheating to try to beat ATI, especially after releasing that piece of shit NV30 chipset.

That's no shit. I ended up with a 4600 when I bought BF 1942 and found that my framerates sucked with my little 64 MB card. Shouldn't be long before these puny little 128 MB cards will be outdated. Hell, I remember buying my TNT2 Ultra 32 MB for $249 at best buy and being excited about "all that power".

That's not true, the 5900 ultra will let you max your settings and perform slightly better than the 4600, but regardless it's not worth $500-600. One of our customers ordered one from CompUSA for $600 and they had the balls to send it to him in a plastic bag, no retail box.

Bah. I bought a Radeon 9500 a while back for almost half the cost of the 9700, and it plays every game I throw at it.

As far as I know, it has all the same DX 9 graphical features as the 9700, just won't push the same frame rates. But what's the difference between 60 fps and 100 fps for most people?

These $600 graphics cards are nuts. Most people aren't going to notice the difference if they buy one step down from the top of the line.

I wonder how many people are trading in their 9700's for a 9800?

I agree with you on that, ha ha ha. From what I've been hearing, in order to REALLY enjoy the game at it's highest settings, you're gonna pretty much need the current top of the line card. I have an All-In-Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro and I'm worried that it's not gonna be enough, ha ha ha.

buddyjuf 06-27-2003 10:15 AM

fuck the GeForce FX!!!
it takes 2 slots
it makes more noise than a vacuum
it doesnt work on 3DMark2003 benchmarks

Ati Radeon 9800Pro FOR LIFE!!!! :thumbsup

none, with the new catalyst drivers, your 9700Pro runs as fast as a non-overclocked 9800Pro!

Ati just OWNZ! :thumbsup

Vlad PL 06-27-2003 10:21 AM

hehe , well I just removed Geforce 4 FX 5600 (256 meg DDr) from my computer (see my thread posted about it today) and installed Radeon 9700 PRO (128 meg DDR) , well I tried the video benchmarks , and the results much better for ATI. so one thing left to say GO.. ATI.. go !:)
