The Alexa toolbar already has a popup blocker, works great. Any revenue models based on popups will be gone in about 3 years or 4 years, by then anyone still letting you pop windows into his browser wiould be mentally incapable of having a credit card...

The problem with popup blockers is that I need to see popups to cancel trades with sites that use them. If the popups are blocked without me knowing, how can I do this? Is there a program that blocks popups but still notifies you of the popups it blocked (and where they popped up from) if you are interested in it?

Swoit 06-27-2003 07:32 AM

Does anyone have any figures on what % of browsers have the google toolbar ?

Next they'll have a 'referrer' saver with URL's! there go the feed providers.

No, but if I send you $50 will you give to your mother to pay for a retroactive abortion?

Just having you in the same gene pool interferes with my karma, you dumb fuckwit.

My question is, does Google make an audio reference-- Does it make a sound whenever a popup is blocked?

lamrobertson 06-27-2003 07:35 AM

Very cool! Even has a form fill as well.

You are an idiot. If popups go away it's not because of a fucking popup blocker. You can't do shit on some sites with one turned on.

The Alexa toolbar does that - I have had in installed since day 1 with no problems, and the first time a site offers a popup you get a warning and a chance to accept or reject, and it asks whether to ask again for this site.

Reak 06-27-2003 07:38 AM

thats pretty cool !:glugglug

How dumb can you be? Its something thats coming. Already some of the isps distribute popup blockers with their install cdroms, and the great majority of surfers who know nothing about pcs (maybe 90%) really want this feature.

Do you watch fucking TV? Earthlink and MSN are already advertising this.

I said 3 years, not 3 weeks. I have had to turn of my Alexa popup blocker 1 time so far (big deal, its a click on the toolbar) to use a site. The technology is getting better and better, and pretty soon Micorsoft will incorporate it natively into the browser and enabled by default, ending popups as they exist for now.

Popups are history. Enjoy them, idiot.

It would be cool to get a notification in the taskbar, like an ICQ message, and then you can click on it to bring up a window of the URLs that were attempted to be popped up and which sites popped them up. The toolbar itself could have the little notification message in it.

The problem is that it doesn't work:

For example, when was the last time GFY had popups?!

Can't say it works for everybody, just for me. I have it on 3 computers running XO-Pro. Never seen a false alarm. If it doesn't work for you turn it off.

Danny_C 06-27-2003 12:07 PM

Opera and Mozilla work better.

HQ: I've never seen a popup blocker that you can't turn on and off easily.

freeadultcontent 06-27-2003 01:26 PM

Does the blocker alert you? Can it be turned on or off easily? Will it allow pop ups on certain sites?

Im guessing most of ya do not use it huh?

freeadultcontent 06-27-2003 02:27 PM

And here is what ya see when there would be a pop up.

No, I wasn't using it. I just installed it and it seems to work really well. This is (almost) exactly what I wanted.
