Is there any fan of Magic The Gathering game?

...just wondder :)

Sly_RJ 06-25-2003 04:37 PM

Cool game, haven't played in years. Have a box of cards sitting in my closet. Think my little brother still has weekly tournaments with his friends.

KidCock 06-25-2003 04:39 PM

I played during the Revised - 4th edition period......still have tons of cards someplace.

strobi 06-25-2003 04:43 PM

started playing from beta up until 4th edition than lost intrest... Still have a few moxes in my closet:thumbsup

gothweb 06-25-2003 04:45 PM

I think I started playing when the revised edition came out. Just after Legends were out. I still have some of my cards somewhere, probably back at my parents' place. Cool game, though.

jpv 06-25-2003 05:19 PM

I started during revised. I competed in alot of big tournaments in the late 90's... Pro Tour Qualifiers, states, regionals, I even went to nationals one year. I played with some of the top players in the world. Very cool times.

The most complicated and involved strategy game I have ever played. The prize money on the Pro Tour is several million dollars per year right now. It is really getting popular. But the game is very time consuming. I practiced for at least 40 hours per week to try to stay competitive for tournaments. I quit when I started working in this biz almost 5 years ago. But I still play and go to tournaments once in a while.

Lane 06-25-2003 05:20 PM

I used to love that game.

I had to stop playing when I started wasting too much money and too much time. :(

MTG online is extremly addicting too.

High Quality 06-25-2003 05:22 PM

I have 2 complete sets of 3rd edition (and 8 forks) sitting in my uncle's closet just accumulating value.

It was a good game. Weak tho, as a $20 white deck could beat anything.

bogo 06-25-2003 05:23 PM

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is yhe only game you need..

Oh Christ. There's an online game? This could kill me. Fill me in.

fnet 06-25-2003 05:23 PM

er, well, i have a full set of the alpha moxes, and i appreciate the highest order of game complexity thing sort of, but i actually play about once every two years.

the new editions are more balanced. you need at least $100-200 for a superb deck.

I warn you. Once you get in, its hard to get out. You can find opponents almost instantly. You can't stop playing and wasting more and more money on cards. Well thats what happened to me. There are tourneys and everything. Its really fun.

Tala 06-25-2003 05:29 PM

I have a trunk full of cards that I'm considering selling since I don't have time for it anymore. I have no idea what all is in there, nothing older than 5th edition though, and a complete set of nemesis. Probably around 1000 cards total, plus decks that I've built, (some EVIL fucking decks in there)

KidCock 06-25-2003 05:31 PM

Yeah but it was fun building creative, low-cost decks that kicked the ass of kids who got their parents to buy them boxes and boxes ;p

It started getting boring though when everyone started cloning decks (ie. goblin, merfolk, white weenie).....but again, it's easy to build a deck to beat those

Backov 06-25-2003 05:33 PM

Ick..

I have a few boxes full of cards. I even bought a few moxes last year when some poor schlub wanted to sell them. They're sitting in sleeves.

I love the game.

I play MTG:O - or used to before I wrenched myself away from it. Was wasting far too much time playing.

One of the good things about it, is that the players on there are SO competitive. You rarely see a boneheaded mistake, like I used to see all the time playing IRL.

tootie 06-25-2003 05:34 PM

We play. If anyone wants to sell their cards, e-mail me :)

We buy collections. We love to grab old collections and go through them for fun. We do that on eBay occasionally. It's like Christmas even when we don't get anything really good out of it. :)

Same question from me....I prob got what you need if it's from Revised through 4th/Mirage

KidCock 06-25-2003 05:46 PM

Uhm.....when did they start making cards that powerful heh ;p
Hopefully there are counter measures to balance things out ?

Greg B 06-25-2003 06:53 PM

I used to work for Acclaim Interactive's 'Valiant Comics' where I drew comic books.

I recall they either picked up the Magic series or a co-worker went to work for them.

I remember the artwork on some of the cards was great.

TheFLY 06-25-2003 06:56 PM

I used to play back in college.

Greg B 06-25-2003 07:05 PM

Hell-o! I have so many beautiful uses for that card in my bruiser deck.

tootie 06-25-2003 07:18 PM

You guys n gals know that Counterspell has been removed in the upcoming 8th Edition, right? I never thought they'd remove that one! Blows my mind.

Too straightforward. They removed pretty much every straightforward spell..

Its replacement:

CounterSpel (one l) BBB

Counter target spell unless casting player shouts "I am a big fucking dork!" as loud as he can, and wins a coin toss. Discard a card. Madness BRW

They're really getting out of hand.

psyko514 06-25-2003 11:47 PM

I got a few thousand of those lying around. Mostly revised, some 5th edition, Homelands, Ice Age, Legends, etc. I have a nearly complete set of Fallen Empires (ugh...).

I got into it because it was the "cool" thing. Never had much money or time to put into it, so I never had any powerful cards or great decks. I loved my black/green decks made of commons like Craw Wurm.

Honeyslut 06-26-2003 12:02 AM

I have some around here from when I owned a card/gift/book/comic shop

SilverTab 06-26-2003 12:19 AM

Started playing when the fallen empire came out...still have a few revised, 3rd edition and most of the fallen empire (yuck)....
Royal Assassin was my fav.... :winkwink:

I loved the early Valiant Comics. You wouldn't have any of the first issues of Magnus Robot Fighter, Rai, and the Harbingers lying around would you?

iroc409 06-26-2003 03:24 PM

lol.. hell yeah, i used to play quite a bit, actually. still have my cards, and even a scrye guy. had my killer blue deck that was worth a shitload of money.. slow starter but pounded the fuck out of people. i'd get down to 4 life before i could even attack someone else, but after that it was all over for them. people hated me. i wish that deck was still worth what it used to be (about $200)... all i was missing was dopplegangers. *sigh*

i was old-skool though, and pretty much quit playing quite some time ago :(

Beastiepoo 06-26-2003 03:29 PM

I HATE THAT GAME.

I played for a while. My boyfriend at the time got me into it. He was totally addicted to it though and started to spend his rent and bill money on cards and tournaments. Before long I was so in debt I couldn't dig out and I ended up hating him and hating myself for what I had to do just to make ends meet.

I'm seething now. Thanks. :feels-hot

iroc409 06-26-2003 03:31 PM

i probably started playing like 8 years ago or so... not really sure what versions and stuff i have, but they're all pretty old. lol.. my blue deck had so many counter spells and everything, it was crazy. i might be looking to get rid of my stuff, but i keep the scrye guy.

did anyone else have a scrye guy??

You bastard. You utter, utter bastard! I though it would be difficult enough avoiding Star Wars Galaxies, but then you had to go and post this link...

Just after I'd got over my "Everquest" addiction :helpme

tootie 06-26-2003 03:36 PM

Let me know if you want to get rid of any of it, iroc. When my husband gets back from errands today he might want to talk with you if you decide to get rid of anything. :)

nophest 06-26-2003 03:39 PM

Magic Tournaments were good, competition is exciting :winkwink:

Rictor 06-26-2003 04:04 PM

I play Magic. Haven't really gotten into playing it online...tried it...just seems like a waste of money when you can get the real cards for the same price or less.

The deck that won the world championships (and a $250,000 prize) a few years back used several copies of that card. It's a great card, especially in the deck it was used in.

KidCock 06-26-2003 04:21 PM

Wooo I found I have the artwork for "The Fallen" (card from legends) signed and framed. I won it in a tourny once, anyone interested in it ?
