The popup blocker has been on the toolbar for ages.

BlackCrayon 06-25-2003 01:20 PM

pop ups being blocked are nice but from a webmaster point of view, i rather get them and know which sponsors have how many pop ups, which sites i trade with have pop ups, ect.

MrPopup 06-25-2003 01:22 PM

For the love of god....please....please....i beg you...

You're thinking about the Alexa toolbar.

I don't know about Google, but other popup blockers make a sound or a visual effect that lets you know that there is a popup.

Check out Avant Browser.

It uses all of the IE backend to produce a kickass browser. It's got pleanty of features. My favorites being the pop up killer, the robo-form plugin, and tabs for browseing multiple pages in one browser.

Meloman 06-25-2003 02:37 PM

I'm curious. Why are webmaters so against popups?

Ya I just don't get it. Popups make money period.

Some people like to send to no pop up tours for sponsors. Well the payout is lower. I've tested sending to both types and I get similar conversions... but I prefer a higher payout so I'll send to the pop up version instead.

Yup TGP's are the only reason not to use them... and that's why I don't do any tgp stuff, lol.

Just my :2 cents:

... and thatīs probably why you make money ... and others just have a lot of traffic.

They are more popular than ever thanks to pop up hell pages.

I advertise pop up stoppers on many pages and even use a pop under to make the point.

I feel sorry for those who use pop ups in a sensible way and rely on them for ad revenue.

Hmmm. Interesting. I wonder if there is a way to stop these popupkiller proggies?

Now AOL has it built in to kill popups.

We should all figure out a way to get around this. Any kick ass programmer want to figure out a way to disable AOL's pop up killer?

When I was a surfer I hated pop up hell. When I became a webmaster and learned to utilize them they didn't bother me as much.

You have to take some of the good with some of the bad. Some people will make pop up hells, some don't. But by saying "I hate pop up hell therefore I'm going to sell pop up stoppers" then you're just ruining it for everyone.

Rather than sell pop up stopers why not just in big letters advertise Ctrl-W closes windows...

Just my :2 cents:

i just use an exit consoles, no java popups, but don't feel ok from that

Meloman 06-25-2003 04:16 PM

Hey miob,

You've got a nice selection of top lists there. I have an idea I want to try with top lists.

What's your ICQ?

Yes, there is such a program out there somewhere. ī'll try to dig it up, and if I find it, I'll post it here =)

Does it make any sounds when it blocks a popup?

s0laris2 06-25-2003 04:36 PM

As a webmaster, it has my vote!

I hate popups personally. We do just fine with NO popups and the surfers appreciate it too.

KidCock 06-25-2003 04:41 PM

Just use Mozilla as a web-browser. It's had this feature for a long time, built-in to the normal browser options.

You can allow certain sites to have popups, others not, enable sound (if you want) to let you know when there is a popup, etc....

Fair enough.

But here's some food for thought:

1. With popups on your paysite you'll make 5%-20% more overnight.
2. Furthermore the sponsors you choose to send traffic to can be told they need to send traffic back from THEIR consoles...thus a traffic trade.

So with consoles on your paysite not only will you automatically make more money but they also help guarantee traffic back. You're not 100% reliant on regular affilaites. You can trade traffic with other paysites and guarantee yourself steady incoming traffic.

3. Because you're now making more money you can have a higher payout to your affiliates. Higher payouts will attract more affiliates.

Just some ideas to consider. Everyone has there own way of doing business.

:2 cents:

I agree. I never once had a pop up and I do OK. ...So I could make more money with them.... So what. I can sell drugs to make more money too, but I don't.

I give popups 6 months, then they will disappear.
Will make surfing faster and better.

Big thanks to Google!

No more popup spam.

Now I hope they will bang the eMail junk spammers in the ass.
