Is 24 hr fitness a "franchise" or "corporation"?
 

I'm helping someone with a paper for a business management course, does anyone know if 24 hour fitness is a franchise? I know its privately owned from their site, does this mean it's a franchise or corp??? Thanks

A franchise is when a Big corporation allow smaller ppl to operate one of their stores for a price

liek Mcdonalds or Pizza hut

so if its privately ownde, then it is a corp.

All you had to do was go to there website for 2 minutes and you would have found your answer. And yes, I am really board right now because I checked it out and it is a corparation.

But you can be a corporation and still be a franchiser, a la McDonald's. The corporation owns some stores, but it also has lots and lots of franchisees (in fact, that's the way most franchisers operate - they cherry pick the best locations/stores for themselves).

I used to work for both major health clubs Bally and 24hour Fitness. They both are corporations. Some 24 hour Fitness clubs outside of the U.S may be just franchises.

Thank! I did figure out it was a corp last night. I just wanted to make sure because my boyfriend had to write a paper about what franchise he would want to pick to own and why, and I wanted to make sure that 24 hour fitness was a franchise to begin with. Ended up writing about Winchell's Donuts instead!

You may have meant to ask if it was a chain or a franchise. After all, a corporation is a legal shell and could be a chain or a franchise. LA Fitness is a chain. Gold's Gym is a franchise. 24 Hour fitness is also a franchise. But, many times the franchisor also holds many franchisee licenses. So, 40 or so 24 hour fitness clubs could be owned by the Corp but if one is owned by someone else they are a franchise.
