Is it just me or is ebay full of scammers?? especially the higher ticket stuff. Every single seller I contacted was full of shit:feels-hot

Brian 06-23-2003 06:29 PM

It isn't just you. It's become pretty bad. :(

BJ 06-23-2003 06:33 PM

3 seperate sellers, all listed in my area... I offered the buy it now price and said I would come pick it up today or whenever they wanted..... all three full of shit

Why 06-23-2003 06:34 PM

friend recently got jacked selling a multi thousand dollar video camera of some sorts.

sold it to a guy in eastern europe somewhere, said he had put the money into an escrow account. my friend being the dumbass that he is, just went along with it all. thats a pretty good scam to pull on new people apparently.

Brian 06-23-2003 06:46 PM

I went to buy a BowFlex for my woman on Ebay....

I won the bid, plus the person had an excellent track record on Ebay.

Then I get an anonymous email telling me not to buy from him. I just figured it was someone wanting me to buy their's instead.

I checked just incase. Turns out the seller of the BowFlex I won the bid on was using a jacked Ebay account. I was 3 minutes away from sending him the money. Thanks to the anonymous tip, I didn't lose any money... In that deal anyway.

Read from bottom up.... this pretty much says it all.

hi,

The bottom line is I will not ship, deliver, or allow pick-up until I have received payment. That payment can be in the form of a money order or cashier?s check sent by mail or payment via PayPal. Either way, I must have payment before we meet. If these terms are acceptable, please let me know. Otherwise, thank you for your time.

John,

Im a bit confused. If you'd like receipts for insurance purposes Id be more than happy to send you a Purchase Order. I am buying the TV for my offices here in chicago. A cashiers check would act as a payment receipt, or as I said before I can pay you cash.

Anyway... what you mention below doesn't make much sense considering we can setlle the transaction in person.

hi,

Actually, you do not need a PayPal account. I can simply send an invoice to a specified e-mail address, via PayPal, and you can pay via Credit Card/Debit Card, etc., through there website. However, should you need to pay via Money Order or Cashier?s Check, I must insist in having it prior to pick-up.

Allow me to explain. I am establishing an online business and although E-Bay is not directly involved, I feel most secure using the methods E-Bay has instituted. Also, I need all documentation regarding every transaction, including all ELECTRONIC payment receipts, for insurance purposes.

Believe me I understand your concern and wish I could offer additional assurances. The only thing I can offer is a promise to have on hand at time of pick-up, a cashier?s check for the full amount, should you be at all dissatisfied and request a refund. Furthermore, I will reimburse for any additional expenses incurred during pick-up, if necessary. I hope you understand and are willing to accept my offer.

Thank You,

John

John,

unfortunately I dont have a paypal account. By cash I meant a money order or cashiers check or if you prefer I can pay you by corporate check. Yor final offer is acceptable to me.

The reason I first contacted you was that you are in chicago and I would be able to verify the merchandise and settle the transaction at the same time.

I'd be more than happy to meet your offer of 4k if we can settle the transaction at the point of purchase. I am open to having it dropped off at my office if that is more suitable for you.

Let me know.

hey,

I told myself I would not accept anything less than $4200.00 for each TV, but I will bend. As I am not able to accept cash, my final offer is $4000.00, via PayPal (for security reasons). Upon your approval we shall discuss pick-up options.

Keep in mind, this is a Brand NEW 50?!

fraudsters...

Jake 06-23-2003 07:24 PM

Yeah, there's definitely some real bastards on there. Too bad, because E-Bay is such a great concept. It only takes a few of these assholes to fuck it up for everyone!

kris242 06-23-2003 07:38 PM

yeah and feedback it too easy to fake, i would buy something like that from a guy if it was a store front+warranty. some people will ship you a 4000.00 box of bricks or something. but ebay is very competitive and alot of online stores sale on it, i bought a indash dvd/mp3/w/screen that i couldn't find for under 1700.00 in local stereo shops, from a store that sales on ebay for 1100.00 so it does do good, just have to be smart about who you deal with. Also they didn't give a fuck how i paid them, i went to the store and paid cash and was charged no shipping or tax.

kevinl 06-24-2003 12:38 AM

Doesn't ebay have a seller's guaranty program. The deals on there are too good not to try and get but you do have to be careful.

Thanks
Kevin

I just paid $50k for a ghost in a jar, theres no ghost. SCAMMERS!!

Digipimp 06-24-2003 02:46 AM

Ebay has pretty much gone to total shit at this point. It's become much like this biz, everyone that got a fucking $199 refurbished emachine for christmas and free fucking netzero 56k internet account thinks they can get rich sitting on their ass because they don't want to work at burger king.
