looking for some good reggae songs

I am a fan of bob marley, and I also enjoy sublime, just looking for some other badass reggae type shit

any ideas?

Ironhorse 06-19-2003 01:18 AM

If you like dub at all try Sly & Robbie. They used to play with Marley and Tosh and it's mostly funky instrumental..well..dubs..

Check out Half Pint. Released a greatest hits album under Skunk Records. Bradley was a big fan.

I'm almost afraid of this one. I have yet to hear a Floyd cover that is not insulting to the original.

Beres Hammond , Morgan Heritage for mellow smoke a bowl to culture reggae. Try Capelton , Sizzla or Beanie Man for hardcore dancehall. :thumbsup

B Sandwich 06-19-2003 01:34 AM

you know what I really want, shit that is or similar to the reggae station in GTA 3 ... I'm pretty sure its called dub but not really sure, but some of those songs really kick ass

See my first post, Sly and Robbie are the kings of dub

TheEbonyFelony 06-19-2003 01:55 AM

im not too into the dub style of reggae but I am a hardcore dancehall machine

B Sandwich 06-19-2003 01:57 AM

man, some of this dub is ok but the rest is the same loops over and over again, kinda liek techno, only real slow

It would be perfect with some lyrics

Mishi 06-19-2003 02:05 AM

Yellowman!

Ironhorse 06-19-2003 02:21 AM

Yeah dub is pretty much ambient, not exactly sing along.. :rasta

Ironhorse 06-19-2003 02:22 AM

How about Peter Tosh? Are you a fan? Marley and Tosh go hand in hand

Also try Alphablondy but you will have a hard time finding this. African reggae from the 80s. Not sure exact country.

Leaning further into African good ambient beats and funky sounds: African Head Charge

Dr Alimantado - Best dressed chicken in town
Eek a mouse - Wa do dem
Scientist - Heavyweight dub champion of the world
Augustus Pablo - the dub remix of Hugh Mundels Africa must be free

Sarah_Jayne 06-19-2003 08:47 AM

anything by Jimmy Cliff...no one better.

for ska-punk check out a little known UK band called Jesse James. They have been on my radar for a couple years now and are just starting to make things happen.

Check out the bargain bin of CDs at just about any place that sells music and see if you can find the Masters of Reggae collection...really cool stuff from the 60's and 70's. Some of the popular greats plus a few acts nobody north of Cuba has ever heard of. Oh, looks like there are a couple for sale on zShops, so Ebay or whatever might have a few lying around.

Edit - just checked Amazon.com, they have both volumes. Cool, I might have to buy myself a present today...lost my copies to the ex...
