what inspires you?
if you get blocked, how do you break out of it? my creative juices are tapped... i need a refill!! normally i take a few days AFK, but right now that's not a possibilty and this weekend i can't make it to the art museum. i'm dying to look at some sisley's and van gogh's... ugh! |
I have a system..... an unforced system that's workin'....

open photoshop
that always works for me :thumbsup |
Other art always inspires, it's a time process with me usually. Sometimes the design is there all along, you just have to click around until you find it =)

if you're designing for yourself it's never a problem. inspiration is everywhere, i study the artwork graphics of everything i pick up, tube of toothpaste, soda can, watch TV ads, look at magazine ads.
problem with designing for others is that most people have a pretty limited view of what a paysite splash and tour should look like so the pressure is there to somehow take the same basic cookie cutter and give it something unique while still giving them what they want. simple is best, a customer of mine just opened a new site, i asked him if i could see it - he was kinda bashful about it, said it wasn't much to look at - he was right, not much to look at - EXCEPT his exclusive content :Graucho - simple simple design and it will work like a charm. think quiet has ever been tempted to throw up some garish design full of Matrix Content painted whores? not on his life. |
see pimp in sig.

2 names....
Sorayama and Nirasawa Japanese artists are very disciplined in there art work. There attention to detail is very inspiring. Their work is very complex, especially the Gynoid work by Sorayama. It's their discipline, and how connected they are to their work that inspires me. When I'm stuck I'll open one of their books and just study the detail. |

mutt... i've already got it in mind to keep it simple ;)
smack... good thinking. red shoe... cool shit! i've seen him in hustler (or is it penthouse?) before. ironhorse... manara reminds me of frank miller, my favorite graphic novelist. thekebie... thanks for pointing that out. i'll look deeper into that site. |
i go out looking for badass sites :P
|
I no longer find inspiration online. I find everything in film motion and special effects.

Mutt get a life dude!

go for a quick drive on the freeway and scream your favorite cd on full length at the top of your lungs.
screaming cures all. go out in a field and scream at god. this is my medicine for anything, get on the highway and ride. I recommend: American Nightmare Embrace Today :) |

The one I am at mostly is for designing and GFY. When I am hurting for inspiration I simply get up and go do something else, totally abandoning the station. I go outside and play with dog, I go to a music store, go to a rock show at night, I hang with friends, but I dont sit staring at the machine. I try to do something different every few days to keep my life changing... you gotta get away from it all. Thats what I try to do. Do you draw or sculpt? Any OTHER art-related stuff. I go to art museums and art shows, seeing grand works of art always inspires me, and being in this part of the world is easy to find good art displays. Many designers are just that, designers, not many have other artistic desires, but the ones who do can find themselves building on other techniques and help inspire other things to come out of their work. Go pick up a guitar, or draw, i like to keep horror movies playing in my DVD while I work, but I mute the sound just so along with my loud music I can have visuals as well. Inspiration comes from within although most feel it comes from without. :) |
