What the fuck is wrong with my Photoshop NOW!!??!?!

Anyone seen this error? Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable. Lemme guess, I need to reinstall my software AGAIN!?

detoxed 06-18-2003 11:02 AM

no, you need a new computer :)

Project-Shadow 06-18-2003 11:03 AM

Might help if you were using a legit copy no.1
No.2.. running adobe off a 486 is not advisable ^^

This is a brand new p4 2.4 gig and it's a legit copy.. wtf.... I've been using it for months.. all of a sudden I shut it down to install a new font (one I've had before) and it fucked up.

tpi 06-18-2003 11:06 AM

uninstall the new font. your font folder cant have more that 200 or so fonts... it crashes it...

funkmaster 06-18-2003 11:06 AM

... you guy crack me up.

psssst, reinstall will do the trick. (not the whole system, just photoshop will do)

LadyMischief 06-18-2003 11:11 AM

It was the number of fonts.. thanks tpi! :)
I was REALLY nervous there I have a ton of work to do lol

iroc409 06-18-2003 11:12 AM

i get this error sometimes, it sucks. shouldn't be the fonts though, i have like 1600 fonts, and they all work fine.

Project-Shadow 06-18-2003 11:12 AM

yes, but I only just started using one a few weeks ago.... I always just used the character map as a font manager. Simple, effective, free.

iroc409 06-18-2003 11:20 AM

i picked up a nice little font manager off zdnet, but i only use it to occasionally update my font pages... i print them out. it's easier to look through 100 pages of fonts and actually several on the page than trial and error when looking for a new font.

I got like 1200 fonts in there though ... time to clean house .

it depends of ram size
(windows tells that it can be problem when there is more than 500 fonts installed)

i have about 600 fonts installed and with 1 GB ram photoshop and system works perfect

demented 06-18-2003 12:39 PM

I have over 3k fonts installed also. Photoshop works perfectly :)

no it wont.

Read your damn manual.

Just re - install Photoshop.

mule 06-18-2003 12:53 PM

Having too many fonts installed slows down your entire system drastically. Windows loads them all on startup.

Ketadream 06-18-2003 12:53 PM

TO many fonts...

LOL, it's got nothing to do with the speed, its your amount of free RAM.

DDR makes a difference, yes. But even with DDR: do a clean booup and time it with a stopwatch, then check your free resources. Now install 100 fonts (or uninstall 100 fonts) and reboot, time it again, and check your resouces. Prepare to be amazed :)

Oh yeah ??
Somebody blew smoke up your ass ....

I got more than 3000 fonts installed ... it takes longer for photoshop to boot up, but runs fine ...

Treasure :
Sometimes photoshop just does not load up properly ... and for what reasons, is anybody's guess ... try restarting the program, or even reboot your computer, and then restart.

Photoshop has over 350 DLL files ... if even just one of them is not found or does not load right, it can caus varying degrees of insanity from within photoshop

try rebooting and restarting ... and if that still fails, then you will have to 100% remove the program, and re-install it.

darnit 06-18-2003 02:00 PM

If you downloaded the font free on the web it could be that that specific font was corrupted. Its happened to me before....try to remove only the fonts that you installed before it started going tits up.....there isnt a limit (that i know of) to the number of fonts you can use, as long as you have the memory to support em...

I restarted the program, I rebooted, I did just about everything I can including a reinstall.. I'm definitely not computer illiterate.. You may say someone was blowing smoke up his ass, but his fix was the only one that WORKED :P
