As he should. Being the victim of a crime does in no way give you any right to commit crimes yourself. One thing is self defence, but hunting down and hurting someone is an entirely different business.

He likely put other lives at risk with the chase. And he certainly put the lives of the _suspected_ robbers at risk (what happened to innocent until proven guilty?).

No civilised society would let someone get away with chasing someone down and running ower them regardless of the reason.

I think you underestimate how serious vigilantism like this is taken. People are regularly arrested, tried and convicted for assault or even murder in similar cases.

That someone has commited a crime against you simply is not an excuse, and will not give you much leniency in court (if you're unlucky, it may give the opposite result, as many judges take an active dislike to vigilantism)

Yep. If you let one idiot use deadly force in a situation where he was in no real danger and he could have just called the cops, every idiot with wild west fantasies of vigilante justice is going to do the same.
