Photoshop Question

Ok, PhotoShop Experts:

I have a .png file with a transparent background

I need to convert this to a .bmp with a black background

I tried to laso the subject, invert selection, then paint the background black, but when I do that, it leaves a light grey outline around the subject

I also made a new image with a black background, laso'd the subject, copied it, and pasted it into the new image, and it didnt have the grey outline, perfect... only problem is, I cant ever get it in the same exact position as the png image, and when I animate these, they jump around

Anyone know how to do this?

Ok.....
First thing is, if you're trying to make a web animation... why not just go for the gif and skip the bmp? You can adjust the position in imageready per frame, so worst comes to worse you can always just "nudge" the image when you need to. If there's an outline problem, usually messing with the anti-alias function will cure it, otherwise "jump" back to photoshop and work the eraser tool.
I usually take a hand's on approach to everything I do, that way I have nothing I can't undo manually.
Post if this doesnt work and I'll attampt another apporach.
Cheers!

Its not a web animation, its a videogame animation

if it didnt absolutely have to be from png to bmp I could fix the problem easily

My video game exp. is tremendously limited outside of Maya 3D... so, sorry I can't help you there...
I'll check with some friends in the industry... but don't hold your breath.
Hey if it's only like 30-120 frames, then in the worst case scenerio, you can always *carefully* edit each frame. At best you'd only be out a few hours.
That's better than nothing.
Good luck!

Can you not just open it in Imageready and convert add a new layer and make it the background and then re save it all? Maybe I'm not understanding what you are asking.

Mr Pheer 06-15-2003 10:09 PM

Figured it out!

Laso the image, copy it, then hit paste, it will paste the image right over itself but on a new layer, select layer 0, paint it black, flatten image.... perfect results
