Aftermath of 911...the little things it's affected in your life?
I found out about the whole thing because the internet went to hell that morning and I had to go to a local newspaper web site to get the news.
This was just after the first plane had hit one of the towers and there was a little blip on the front page of the site with the headline "small commuter plane hits one of the world trade center towers." I went upstairs and turned the TV on to find the second plane hitting. Ever since then when there's a slow down on the internet I always pop up a news site to make sure nothing new has happened. Just a small way those lunatics touched my life forever. -joe |
I was the MIS Manager for a large corporation that most of you have recieved mail from.
The CFO of the company called me in his office because cnn.com wouldn't load. I noticed none of the news channels wouldn't load so I turned on the TV in the corporate officers lounge. To my horror I watched the second plane hit the building. I was then charged by the company to hook up every television set they had and make sure the news was on. I then did what I could to keep our network up as anybody that was online knows the internet came to a crawl that day. After I made sure everybody was able to see the news I went to my office and started going through my phone messages from my family all trying to see if I had any contact with my brother or sister inlaw through thier cell phones. Later that night I talked my volunteer fire company into going to NYC to help in the rescue effort seeing we were only 3 hours from NYC. After I explained to my fire chief that my brother and sister in law worked in the world trade center he put a crew together and we went to help out for 7 days. To this day no remains of my brother or sister inlaw have been found. Thier son lives with us now. And days like today when it was normal for me and my brother to get together really brings back sad memories of 9-11. |
Airport security is a hassle...takes more time to catch a flight,
and I too tend to watch international news more than before. |
Going to Michigan from Windsor is the longest wait possible, I bring my mini tv and some good movies to pass the time.

I had to move... I live in FL on the space coast.. was living in Cocoa Beach at the time.. well the main and only road that runs down the coast ( A1A ) was closed for 3-4 months, due to terriost threats (2 suspected terroists were caught trying to get on the base).. Patrick AFB is basicly right next to the road... and that base has a lot to do with the entire missle tracking system for this half of the world.. well they closed the road and insted of takeing 20-30 mins to get to work everyday.. it took me over an hour..
so I had to move closer to work... kinda sucks because they orginally said the road may never re open... but then after 3-4 months they finally opened it.. kinda out of the blue.. I would have stayed in CB if I knew it would re-open the road for sure |
