An timely and interesting article on chargebacks and a group of merchants who've finally decided to do something about the problem using the legal system:

damn fucking finally some action.

This is the same class action lawsuit originating in North Carolina that has been posted here a couple times.
NON adult merchants too :) |
given their profit off chargebacks, I am even more skeptical that they will cut off the adult world.
they will just charge us more in the way of fees... if the AVS thing happens, it's because they see $$$ in getting per site fees... |
Sorry, the URL was:

yes, itīs amazing ... a simple "wasnīt me" ... and people get their money back.
|
This is very important. Good post.
Not to take away from this, but checks are also a HUGE problem. I just ditched them after a year of pricks using hot checks. Guess what? No sales difference. And I am free of those freeloading ho's. This hopefully will turn into something bigger and eventually get people to think twice before charging back. |
if the CVS number is used, does that qualify as a "signature"?
I noticed a lot of people requesting the CVS lately, what protection does it provide? |

This may sound like a stupid question, but do charge backs exist because there is no way to prove that someone actually bought access to a site?
If so isn't there any type of technology or tracking you could do to prove that a person accessed content. IE tracing the ip address of the credit card purchase to the IP address where person access the content. I know this is a bad example because of users who use dynamic ips, but it seems to be there has to be a way to prove a surfer actually bought access to a site. any thoughts?? naz |
Hopefully something good comes out of this lawsuit.

So no real protection. |

If it doesn't provide protection, why make users jump thru hoops? I know all my credit card numbers by heart and never dig them out. |

what fucks me is how simple it is to call up any ISP and say we are investigating a fruad matter and need to know who was using this ip at this time and date and they will tell you the exact account details and alot now will even tell you the number they dialled in via
plus every isp i have worked for keep this info going back atleast a year so why cant the CC companies take 5mins to find the surfer is BS'ing there way out of paying and put a few in jail for fruad to scare the market into not doing it but no...CC make good cash off the charge back fees...more profit then if a sale goes thru with out a problem so guys we pay for a service where the service provider wants the transaction to fail so they can make some extra cash at our expense can we arrange like a fight club style way of getting rid of visa etc ? lol |
