J.P. Morgan, Citigroup, Bank of America meet with Treasury officials to discuss role in rebuilding. NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. banks including J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc., and Bank of America Corp. have met with officials from the U.S. Treasury Department to discuss a role in the rebuilding of the Iraqi financial system, according to a published report Thursday, citing unnamed bankers. Financing trade, systems for payments, currency exchange and retail banking were among the topics discussed by the banks, the Wall Street Journal reported. U.S. officials, who have not reached a decision on whether to directly involve the banks, approached some banks to start discussions, according to the paper. Representatives of J.P. Morgan (JPM: Research, Estimates), Citigroup Inc (C: Research, Estimates)., and Bank of America (BAC: Research, Estimates) did not return calls for comment early Thursday. |
