I have become very confused as to this whole "race" issue.

When I grew up, race was skin color (we were white, they were black or yellow or brown or red). Now, I hear people saying that the Jews are "racist" toward Arabs. But they are pretty much the same color, and genetically (ethnologists tell us), there's hardly a dime's worth of difference between the two groups (considering the Middle Eastern Jew, as opposed to the European Jew who has intermarried with Europeans). They are separated more by geography, custom (including religion), and language than anything else.

Geneticists tell us that there is really more divergence WITHIN so-called racial groups (e.g., "white" vs "black") than there is between the average person representing each group. (So, for those of you with dirty minds, this means that there is more of a difference between the longest and shortest dicks among black men than between the average white dick vs. the average black dick.)

When it comes to intelligence, all that matters is how much YOU got, but I will say that, looking around, as a group it would seem that Asians come out on top, not white people. BTW, I'm a white guy.

Skin color is merely a vague indication of race. You are correct about the rest.

That is a widely touted myth originally based on misunderstood statements from a genetical project. Sorry to blow your bubble, but we are more closely related to, and share more genetic similarities within our own ethnic groups. Even strictly hypothetically your statement doesn't make sense. There are differences, and there are many genetical varieties within every ethnic/racial group (whites have many different hair- and eye colors, for example), but that doesn't make the average individual more like the average individual of another ethnic group. If it were so, we wouldn't even have racial/ethnic groups.

Thumbs up. You are correct in saying that Asians have higher intelligence. They average around 5-8 points higher than Whites, but have far less geniuses as Whites have a more widely spread intelligence curve. What you see around you in America isn't representable for such generalizations, by the way, it is generally only the smart ones that move to America, through student exchanges and similar.

I would like to add that, as a rule (with exceptions), the more closely related you are to someone, the more genetic similarities you are likely to have. It doesn't work the other way around.

But..."race" is obviously a slippery Silly-Putty term that means different things to different people. It is almost always used in either of two ways: to stereotype a group by some perceivable difference (color, customs, clothing, etc.), so obviously if people weren't trying to demonize or ridicule other people?and normally this is done in light of the accusing group's low sense of self-esteem or fear of the other group gaining access to its limited resources or other perceived or presumed "territory" (taken in its broadest possible sense to mean space, jobs, sex partners, etc.).

It is not a term that actually MEANS something, or rather its meaning is not a definition in words, it's true meaning is what it is used to do, which is to hurt people or put them at a disadvantage somehow. (ref: Ludwig Wittgenstein's "language as game" theory).
