Just Opened Dreamweaver MX 6.1

DAYUM!!!

Im used to using notepad and frontpage, wanted to take it a step furthur.

I cant find how to do anything, and my workspace seems tiny as hell!

You guys all use this??

lil2rich4u2 06-07-2003 07:20 PM

ahhhhh fuck!

this does the same stupid shit frontpage does!!!

adds a [p] instead of a [br] when you hit the enter key!!!

When i hit enter, it means new line! NOT new paragraph!!!

is there a way to adjust this setting? or change the default?

pornJester 06-07-2003 07:22 PM

All your base are belong to us.

lil2rich4u2 06-07-2003 07:24 PM

and i just right clicked on a table cell, where are "cell properties" and "table properties"?

Took me forever to download this thing, now i gotta delete it? lol

natas 06-07-2003 07:25 PM

shift and enter

pornJester 06-07-2003 07:25 PM

i'm being honest. unless you just plain suck at web design it shouldn't matter what wysiwyg editor you use. it's there to assist you in web design, not to do it for you. i use frontpage with no problems.

I love frontpage, i just cant STAND when they put new paragraphs instead of linebreaks and i gotta go in and change it all the time, lol

Thats my only real beaf with them i supose.

Project-Shadow 06-07-2003 07:48 PM

To make <br> use Shift+Enter

I personally prefer Dreamweaver 4.. Not as fucking crowded on your workspace.

However MX has it's perks.. not quite worth it though.

what are you trying to do where this makes a difference?

bobv50 06-07-2003 07:56 PM

@lil2rich4u ...I have been using Dreamweaver for about 3 yrs now..:thumbsup

Only use it if you are serious about webdesign. Take your time and go through the tutorials and actually learn how to use the software. The template feature is very useful...I saw on another thread where you mentioned using batch thumbs for your galleries..You can create those thumbnail galleries and "apply" templates that you have already made containing different recips and sponsors banners. It saves time if you have lots of galleries floating around the net..Just update the template and all galleries will automatically be updated. :2 cents:

I felt the same way when I switched from Frontpage 2000.

For starters, writing a paragraph then i get to the end of a line and hit ENTER it goes down a whole inch.

Thats before i knew about this whole shift+enter thing

I think now i will be fine using only frontpage as usual.

Thanks!!!

I've been DW4L since back in the day. Best WYSIWYG imo, and it beats the fuck out of hand coding most things.

Some people take a masochistic pleasure in hand coding everything, but you can do 95% of it as well with a wysiwyg. You just have to know its coding shortcomings and how to fix them.

buzzard 06-07-2003 08:27 PM

Homesite is the bomb.
If you Use Dreamweaver in coder mode, It becomes a glorified homesite; and Very good for integrating sites with a Lot of pages.

Just takes time to get good with Dream Weaver.

Ever see anyone take any program and be all...

"I understand it all!" in five minutes? I never seen ithat happen, nor do I think it will happen.
I been a Dreamweaver user since version 2 and it was the best choice for webdevelopment then and I think it is now.

Umm... for many programs, it's not that complicated.
I can sit down at many software programs and do shit in five minutes that people can't do in 5 months. I can guide people through software I've never used.

It's all logic. Most software follows a common setup.

Frontpage is the thing for simple html..

But if you want to do any layers or simple java Dreamweaver is the way to go.

crockett 06-07-2003 10:22 PM

if you click on the table just look at the bottom of DW.. all the properites are right there..

I'm learning it aswell.. but compared to some of the 3d apps I've learned DW is cake... I've had a few things that took a little while to figure out... but buy a book.. that's what I allways do

What is MX 6.1?

Is that newer than just MX?

KRL 06-07-2003 11:21 PM

I have Dreamweaver and it is a bit cluttered.

I prefer coding by hand in NoteTab Pro. That way its visually clean and very fast.

Yes, Dreamweaver is just version 6.0. 6.1 is just some minor update, nothing new.

Theo 06-08-2003 03:42 AM

as everyone said, Dreamweaver rules. The best way to learn it is by reading their tutorials and examples. They are VERY helpful and you'll get a good dose on how DW works and what it can do. Frontpage doesn't even come close to DW.

I don't think lil2rich4u2 can read :(

Check this out Richie...

Also, here's a good article from the Macromedia site on making the switch from Front Page to Dreamweaver. It's got some good info on the DMX basics.

Sarah_Jayne 06-08-2003 09:39 AM

if all you are looking to do it a basic page then get out notepad and stick with that or frontpage (ick..nothing personal, I just can't stand it).

Dreamweaver helps me with the bells and whistles side of things.

In FrontPage hold SHIFT + ENTER and that will give you a BR. (I didn't read the other responses so if this is a double post, sorry).

Is it me, or is Dreamweaver MX a lot slower than the older versions? It somehow managed to bring my 12-inch PowerBook G4 to its knees. I might have to purchase a more powerful computer to run it (and the palette-happy nature doesn't help much either)

You guys all use this??

You can set it up different ways... Full pannel which I think you have described or in windows...

For <br> use shift+enter

Anything else? I am pretty good with Dreamweaver.... ICQ me if you have questions or want help.

Trust me... 1,000 times better than FrontPage.:thumbsup

MX uses more resources than earlier versions.... OPens much slower on my machine and will hang at times. Ultra Dev and Dreamweaver 4 are much faster.
