Lewis Might Fight Roy Jones..."I won't ever fight Tyson again"

Boxing-Johnson-Lewis Fight Off

DALLAS (Reuters) - Canadian Kirk Johnson has pulled out of his world heavyweight title fight against champion Lennox Lewis in Los Angeles on June 21 because of injury, organizers said on Saturday.
Johnson sustained a torn chest muscle in sparring at his Dallas-Fort Worth training camp on Wednesday and doctors ruled him out of the fight on Friday. The 30-year-old first felt a twinge after throwing a left uppercut.

Dr Alan Stockard of Fort Worth took an MRI scan on Friday and diagnosed a torn left pectoral muscle.

Stockard said Johnson would need four to six weeks of complete rest but would not need surgery since it was only partially torn.

"We are very disappointed at the postponement because we truly believe that Kirk had a great shot to beat Lennox Lewis and become the new heavyweight champion," Johnson's promoter Dino Duva said in a statement.

"The injury should heal itself within four to six weeks and we are hopeful of rescheduling the bout for August or September." The fight was to be Lewis' first in more than a year since he knocked out former champion Mike Tyson in Memphis last June.

Their fight contract had stipulated a rematch, but Lewis said this week he would not fight Tyson again.

"I won't ever fight Tyson again," said Lewis. "That's over. He's seriously scared of me and his time has passed.

"He (Tyson) must have had bad dreams about the beating I gave him in Memphis last June."

The 37-year-old also said he probably had two or three fights left in him before retiring.

"I have been having thoughts about retirement. A lot of different things happened to me in my year out of the ring.

"It wasn't until a few months ago that I really said 'You know what? I'm going back in there'.

"It struck me that there were two or three fights still out there for me and still within me."

Lewis said he may fight Germany-based Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko or <b>World Boxing Association champion Roy Jones as his final hurrah to the sport.
