Stealing Graphics - Legally?
 

im talking about Nastydollars.com


The graphics they use on their galleries, tours, etc.

Can I use them if they are being used to solely promote their site?


example ... they have a gallery in their hosted gallery section, but i want to change it around a bit (promoting the same site though)

Stuff like buttons, or logo's, or pics, etc.


Do paysite owners object to this?

I think the fact that you came to us instead of Nastydollars indicates that the real question was, "Would it get me into trouble to use NastyDollars' images without asking them for permission?" I think you KNEW it would be wrong. The real question was about what you were risking.

I asked here because i never realized there was a contact page for nastydollars. After he mentioned it i went and looked and found it. Email has been sent.

why is it wrong? they offer them as free content and 99% of the ND templates come from the same graphics they have in their tours. I was probably the 1st to do that on most of their sites and then many followed. The word "stealing" is wrong here

The fact remains that the ONLY opinion that counts won't come from a poll of GFY webmasters. You can't deny that. The fact that other content owners may be doing something different is irrelevant. All that's really relevant is getting actual permission.

BTW this is why it was even a question to me.

A sponsor i use, and is a personal bud of mine has launched some hosted galleries ...

I asked him if its ok that i rip them off and host them myself so i can make some changes to them.

He told me its not ok, and if i wanted something different that i should pay to have it done for me and not use the ones he paid for.

I dont agree with your above post though. Once again, im not trying to hide anything or sneak around ... i just wanted to know if anyone has had experience doing this with them (ND) since i didnt know of a way to contact them.

Well, if you have permission in writing, or in the extremely unlikely case it's in the public domain... Otherwise, it's wrong to PRESUME permission. There is no copyright concept such as presumed permission that I'm aware of.

Everyday people come here and ask the folks at GFY questions that could also be answered by sponsors, hosting companies, processors, content companies, etc. Nobody cares. Nobody gives them shit. People actually answer the question.

Anyway...

To get a definite answer, ask the sponsor. I've never asked Nasty Dollars before, maybe someone else here has (another reason for asking at GFY.)

If I were a sponsor and had hosted galleries with exclusive content, I would allow the affiliates to do whatever they wanted with the galleries as long as they used the content to only push traffic to my sites. Both affiliate and site owner are in this to make money, not be nit picky pricks looking for ways to fuck each other over. Now, if the content used is NOT exclusive, odds are you won't be able to host the galleries. If you know that the content isn't exclusive and the site owner STILL let's you host them, you should be a little leery. Odds are, both you and the site owner will be breaking license agreements.

Every now and then you'll find a site owner who's really anal about what you can and can't use. Forget them. Move on to a sponsor that's easy to work with, will save you hassle and frustration later on.

one time i made some manips with max hardcore content so i asked them for permission and got those. i think mostly it´s just a question of licences

lil2rich4u2, why do you have so much trouble with the concept of ownership? It's pretty simple really, if you don't own something and it has not been deemed public property, you must get the owner's permission before you can use it.
