After 8 years of smoking...

I'm finishing my 2nd full day of not smoking.

2nd full day of being 100% smoke free.

It's NOT easy....but well worth it.

Just hope this craving goes away soon.

:winkwink:

Carp 06-05-2003 05:15 PM

good job man. i finally quit after 5 years and i have never felt better. fuck smoking

Gutterboy 06-05-2003 05:16 PM

When I quit after 8 years of smoking, the cravings went away as soon as I switched to another nicotine source. I've never had the urge to smoke tobacco again.

benthompson 06-05-2003 05:16 PM

have sex instead, it will keep you busy :thumbsup

I used chewing tobacco to quit. Its a popular method in europe.

I quit smoking 2 packs of menthol smokes a day on Halloween 1997, I quit cold turkey.

was bartending at the time, woke up from an all nighter (24 hour bar in new orleans) i woke up so fucking tired and hung over, I lit a smoke and it made me start puking, I threw the pack away and havent smoked since.

I smoked for about 4-5 years, and quit cold turkey, its tough, i gained a little weight, but worked it off. I put on about 20 lbs when I quit smoking cigs. Just dont eat more and just watch what you naturally start to increase, such as sweets or soda, you will start to crave things once your tastebuds come back but fight it off.

the weight was the only thing I regretted about quitting smoking.

im a bitch when it comes to my weight.

;)

trust me.

just do not give in.

and if you do, okay, youll realize why you shouldnt smoke anymore, because chances are it wont taste the same, and youll cough more, and maybe even get a headache, this opnly proves you should quit.

just stand strong and do not give in, the cravings will fade.

good luck man, this is the best choice of your life.

i coughed up black shit for about 6 months after I quit, in about 2 months is when youll start coughing up your own tar.

it just takes time and will power to fight it off until then.

seriously, good luck to both of you, i hope you both beat it.

Those smokers quitlines offered by State Health Departments are actually helpful. They gave my mom some nice tips on fighting cravings.

BTW, she's been smoke-free for some 3-4 years now.

Ironhorse 06-05-2003 06:00 PM

I quit cigs after 15 years smoking 2-3 packs a day. It's now been a year and a half, save one indiscretion in Vegas this January.

You can do it bro, but the craving will never go away, but it will become much easier with time. You will miss it but since you already want to give it up, you will do it! That's all it takes. Good luck!

This is the single defining factor of quitting anything.

It's if you REALLY WANT TO QUIT or not.

If you want to quit you will, if you dont want to, you wont.

Make the choice.

Fletch I didn't think you had this in you :) This is the most sensitive post I've ever read form you :thumbsup

Tomorrow will be a full week of non smoking.

It's definately hard. But if you care about yourself, your family, and have young ones you want to be around for to see them grow up, you'll do it.

Good luck!

Snake Doctor 06-05-2003 08:49 PM

Fuck all that......I tried quitting once
I used the patch.

I was up to a patch and a half a day......I had to start smoking again in order to quit the patch.

Ironhorse 06-06-2003 12:26 AM

That's the problem with the patch is that you quit the habit not the drug. You need to rid yourself of the demon itself :thumbsup

Starting day 3....

Thanks for the support.

Yesterday SUCKED soooo bad.

I was in SUCH a bad mood...It was shocking really.

I can't believe I got through it...glad I did though.

Nicotine is some Mean stuff.

I have done pretty much every drug out there....and never had a problem putting it down and never picking it up again...but this stuff man...its something evil.

Day 3 - woot.

kmanrox 06-06-2003 02:21 AM

Day 3 smoke free here as well! Yesterday was tough as hell, today was already a lot better. The big test will be this weekend.

Kimmykim 06-06-2003 02:18 PM

After day 3....it was a breeze man.

I quit cold turkey. If you REALLY want to...you can.

Plus...you can start smelling how bad smoke really stinks.

I took 50% my clothes to the dry cleaners to get the smell out.

My leather jacket too. It reaked.

TheFLY 06-21-2003 12:12 AM

Stay away from the bars and other smokers and stay away from the alcohol for a while -- that's the easiest way to quit... Just change your social habits... Also do some cardio work... your lungs will repair themselves -- you'll be coughing a lot -- could get real nasty depending on how much you smoked... When my friend quit he was hacking up all kinds of nasty shit...

Practice coughing... I know it sounds crazy, but if you think about it -- it makes sense... Cough technique is important to clean your lungs. My technique that seems to work best -- stand up straight, take a deep breath and exhale as fast as possible all the way out -- kindof like how a dog barks... Scare some people... Hehe...

How the lungs work is pretty cool -- fluid in the lungs catches foreign particles -- this fluid works its way up... after a lot of smoking this whole cleansing system is weakened -- that's why you're more likely to get sick if you smoke a lot... anyway good luck -- I heard the nicotine stays in your bodyfat for a very long time -- that's how the cravings can last much longer... You might need to find another way to relax...

phlegm is good shit :thumbsup

3 days is what it takes but for it to stick... I heard 18 days is the limit. Someone once told me it takes 18 days to form a habit, and break old ones. Don't know if it's true but it seems to work.
