 Wtf!!!??

WTF is up with that flash banner that shows up at GFY with the shark eating fish. I know its a nice little game and anything but its not advertising anything particular and definitely does not click through to anything. Is this some sort of Milton-esque allegory regarding the travails of a small webmaster in pond filled with traffic sharks... or is it just a ghetto version of "Finding Nemo" :)

My guess is that the games banners draw attention towards the top of the page... familiarizing readers with the banner spots leads to better ad exposure, even a short millisecond glance to see if the game is there can lead to a clickthru and a signup.
It's like driving past a certain landmark on the way to Walmart... if there's a hot chick there randomly, 10% of the time, most people will check it out every time they drive past. Very subtle. Nice gimmick. :321GFY |

Interesting theory. If its true, it would definitely counteract the problem facing banner advertisers--most people develop a tolerance and desensitization to banner advertising.

Similar to the teaser billboards that movie companies put out that make you guess what the fuck they are pushing.... I remember when Mysterymen was about to be released, there would be cryptic billboards advertising the characters but not telling you anything about the movie. |

I don't care what it's for. I kept my fish alive for 21 seconds once:thumbsup
