Fishing Lovers - My Pic from Sunday

For the GFY fishing enthusiasts, here we come into the summer months, how is everyones fishing going?

Shawcutie?

We been fishing the jetties at Ponce Inlet, about 50 yards off shore, and the reds are thick. We can only keep one per day they are regulated and they cannot be less than 18 inches or longer than27 inches.

This bull was 30.5 inches and released Sunday. We did catch 2 other 26 inch keepers, tastes like chicken not fish :-)

Give me some fishing reports, I know I am not the only one out fishing on the weekend.

nice catch... and the fish isn't bad either. :winkwink:

I love fishing... I can't wait to go this year.

The Dawg 06-03-2003 07:43 AM

Nice!

I cant wait to get back out on the water... I like saltwater fishing. The last monster I caught was a 7 lb. grouper. off Haulover Inlet last year.

lagwagon 06-03-2003 07:47 AM

dayum! nice catch. so what niche would you put that in?

Nina 06-03-2003 07:48 AM

you know I have yet to actually eat a fish I've caught... I always end of thrwoing them back in. but that's my new goal for this summer... to catch a fish, clean it and eat it. :)

LeeNoga 06-03-2003 07:52 AM

Dawg, you fish Haulover? We are neighbors, I have fished there with a friend.....and thats a great shrimping location.

I don't have a flats boat, I have a split hull water ski boat, and used to launch at RiverBreeze but I have to fish the east side of the channels, and its slim pickings.

We caught 4 redfish last Sunday leaving the inlet and casting towards the jetties. We have yet to keep a grouper, we caught one again the jetties. I think I hooked into a hundred pound plus jewfish grouper, 45 minutes and we moved him about a foot and then he took my line out again....we finally broke off.

We were bad, we caught our limit and we fished some of my fav places on the way back , and I accidently caught another 24 inch red and we tucked him under the boat seats and headed back to the ramp :-) Gawd, we cleaned for hours but my neighbors loved the fish fry!

The reds are are not showing up in the flats much, water is real low, everyone is fishing for black drum....I just chase the reds, trouts and snook and snook season is closed now for the next 3 months.

Nina Babee, I was real bad last year, I was still pier fishing and did not have a boat and we caught pompano, flounder and mangrove snapper all the time and we cleaned and froze, never ate them much.

NOW, we end our adventure by cleaning and frying up dinner and then freezing the rest....works out better.

What kind of fishing do you do? Fresh or salt?

Bex 06-03-2003 07:57 AM

Nice fish :)

I will be heading out soon ... hope I limit out!

Both fresh and salt, although I'm not a real knowledgeable fisherman... I just go whenever/where ever I can, like if I'm camping upstate or at Ric's parents' house (they live on the beach).

My grandfather bought me my first fishing pole when I was 5... I still have it. :)

What's the best way to clean a fish?

shawcutie 06-03-2003 08:00 AM

Ohhhhhh Man! Thats awesome Lee!!
Brad & I never went on our fishing trip a few weeks ago. We ended up having company. We are just so upset with our lake. It really has no structure, so the fishing isnt so well. We are going out of town this weekend for my birthday, I am hoping we get to go fishing!!! If not, you will take me in Florida right??!! ;)
Keep posting pics!!!

SixNine 06-03-2003 08:04 AM

Lee you could slap the shit out of somebody with that thing.

This is what we do.

Use newspapers and cover the table and we clean outside in my pool area because I am not chasing scales inside my home.

We start at the tail on one side and follow the bone towards the head, the fillet gets thicker as you clean towards the head, we hold onto the tail and use a board with a tail pincher so the fish does not move when ya grunt threw the cutting process.

We flip it over and repeat the other side.

We then take out the stomach and autopsy it, our favorite part :-)

So the innards and head are still attached.

We then take the fillet and hold one end, and take the meat off the skin, the knife glides under it and we leave nothing on the skin carcass.

Then we wrap the remains up and place them in my freezer until the night before garbage pickup, so they don't stink and rot in the garbage can.

LeeNoga 06-03-2003 08:07 AM

Oh, forgot the detailing thing.

Then we cut out any thing red on the white meat, bloodline etc., we split the fillet down the middle and remove the bone and bloodlines, cut off any bony belly meat, just squeeze you will find the bones.

Then we chunk the strips of meat into 1 inch pieces, batter them and deep fry in a fry daddy, get some miracle whip and relish and thats our dip sauce.

Yummy fish nuggest and NO bones!

marzzo 06-03-2003 08:20 AM

I clicked this thread because I thought it said "FISTING lovers" but I'm pleasantly surprised with your catch :)

I would like to see someone slapped silly with it tho, maybe Headless is around?

sounds like a bit of a process... I'm going to get someone to walk me through the first time, so I know what I'm doing.

Aflex, I am in Central Florida and live about 28 miles from Daytona, we have Ponce Inlet that leads out from the intercoastal to the ocean. Nasa used to use the intercoastal to transport rockets etc...so they are some nice deep channels.

The jettie rocks as you can see in the background are treacherous, ya cannot get to close or you will slam your boat, or get your anchor stuck...but the 5 star fish hover around those jetties and fight like hell.....

I am gonna have superman biceps if this keeps up...its all Atlantic fishing.....

Started fishing last year on a pier, and of course nobody wants to share tips and tricks, and I kept with it, and finally a nice payout every weekend :-)

Dunno why ladies don't get more into this....

Keev 06-03-2003 09:36 AM

gosh, now im getting hungry.. i love to have that for dinner.

dchottie 06-03-2003 10:26 AM

nice catch lee. I'm ready to go striper fishing this year. Lake house is ready, 26 ft. striper boat is cleaned and ready to go. I spent all of last summer teaching the kids how to fish. They have mastered it not and it's my turn so watch out fishies here I come. Unless I get drunk and fall asleep on the bow again. :Graucho

LeeNoga 06-03-2003 10:48 AM

Get that big boat out and get to fishing! I have not freshwater fished yet but there is a large mouth bass camp about an hour away from me, and I am thinking about bass fishing.

I love to fish and go every weekend, no matter what, and sometimes I get spanked and real tanned and eat at McD's on the way home, and other times its un-believable and the neighbors get a fish fry.

Problem now is I want to go deeper into the ocean! I need a larger boat an downriggers to go get those dolphin!

See with me, always got to press up.

dchottie 06-03-2003 11:10 AM

personally if it were up to me I would do the lazy laid back catfishing thing. But last time I did it wasn't so lazy or laid back. My 7 year old hadn't caught a thing and the other two kids had pulled 6 or 7 each out in about an hour. He was so upset but he finally hooked a fish (suspect it was a catfish) he started reeling it in on his 15 lb. test line and got it about 5 feet from the boat and it broke the line. He started crying so I started watching the water for his lost bobber (which was the size of a friggin baseball - he picked it out) I finally saw his bobber about an hour later (damn fish had kept it under that long) so being the good mommy I am I dove into the water and swam over to grab the bobber. I got within about a foot of it and the damn fish took the bobber and went under again and stayed under about an hour and a half til we spotted it again. I tried to swim after it again but to no avail. So, he caught a couple more and was happy and i'm never chasing a damn fish again. It must have been pretty good size to keep that size bobber underwater so long. Damn Oklahoma catfish get big enough to swallow a person so I don't think I wanna try to grab one like that again.

Reak 06-03-2003 11:14 AM

nice catch :thumbsup

LeeNoga 06-03-2003 11:54 AM

My favorite part, what was in their stomach that they came to my line and ate at my house:

This decomposed mullet was about 7 inches long, and he had a 2 inch crab in the belly too.

Fish can be so glutty, they hit the lines for the sport of it not always because they are feeding .

Nice fish, i however like freshwater fishing :)

got a 12 kilo (24 pounds) Throut 3 weeks ago (personal record). i like catching small throuts though around 3 kilos, much more fighting.

LeeNoga 06-03-2003 02:11 PM

I wish I knew something about freshwater, you use alot of artifical lures? 24 pounds I want to see the stomach contents!

I wish I knew more about it, and having learned saltwater, I dread the learning curve for fresh...but I want a bass and trout to taste it!

Where is your trout pics?
