If one registers it may or may not mean that one would get less calls. I have an unlisted phone number but I still get calls from telemarketers. They use their computer to dial random numbers so being unlisted does not stop the telemarketers.

Telemarketers and solicitors are easy to get rid of.

If the Jehovah Witnesses don't stop banging on your door at 8:00 in the morning... answer the door naked and you'll immediatley be blacklisted.

If they are selling newspaper or magazines--
Tell them you are illiterate.

If they are trying to sell home improvements-- Tell them you rent a room in a trailer so it's not your decision

If they are trying to upgrade your phone service -- Tell them your company pays your bill and you have no choice in the matter

...or if you tell them to GFY enough times, they take you off the lists also.


I did this for a few months and was taken off every list... I haven't received any calls or knocks at my door in ages.

There is this company here in Austin that has one of those recordings call you and leave a message (very annoying). I found out that these type calls (where there is no live operator) is illegal. They called me ALL the time, even after I called a real human being there and told him to put me on their DO NOT CALL list.

I filed suit in small claims court for $5K for all their calls (you can get $500 per call, and in Texas, the judge can award up to $1500 per call if they feel like it).

The company never answered the court after being served. I called the court today and scheduled next Wednesday for a "default judgement" hearing. Hopefully I'll get the $5K that I asked for.

We have that in place here, it works great. You just call an 800 number and it automatically picks up your number. Once we did that, the calls stopped immediately.

I rid myself of them by saying - before they could say anything, and in a very polite voice - that I didn't give a fuck about Jesus.

The looks on their faces were priceless. I guess they share their blacklists, because I haven't been bothered by the Mormons or the JW's for years now. See them riding around all the time tho.

I sure hope its not like trying to opt out of spam.

honestly.... they are compiling a database of people's phone numbers and giving them to telemarketers and saying 'don't call these people'.

Sounds more like a telemarketers dream come true.
