Let's reconnect one year after Skype was terminated
 

So we went from ICQ to skype and that worked just fine.

Up until May 2025

The migration to Teams was a disaster, I've tried to message all my contacts with updated info and telegram info prior to the change, and reconnecting with more for the past year, but a one year later, a part of these is still lost.

It happens at the events that i walk to somebody, who I know for 20 Years or so, and ask him for a contact, since we lost touch after Skype terminated.

I can't imagine why wouldn't they keep Skype as it is, I see plenty of contacts in Teams inactive, or that probably never even logged in into their Teams account after the change.

skype was originally a bulletproof p2p voip. potentially secure against most of "them", and a logical alternative to paying the phone company.

gates was ordered to destroy it. took ten years to finish the job.

Great topic. I had thought that the industry would move to Teams due to it's migration of skype contacts and for a while it seemed as though many would - then some where down the line Teams kept screwing up or became costly and then Telegram started to become the program of choice.

That doesn't mean that others didn't stop their own like signal - whatsapp so now it generally means you need to keep 3 or 4 chat systems running on your system

ICQ worked great.
MSN Messenger worked great.

Everything sucks now so fucking hard

Weird coincidence when I dated my first real long term girlfriend as a teenager shortly after getting my ICQ setup... her phone number was 467-65-62 and her brother's PC had a big "233" LED window on his PC displaying the mhz.
