you have a kid. my father was a deeply imperfect person (he used to joke about serving as a bad example and rightfully so) but one of the many gifts he gave me was a work ethic. do ish that means something, put effort into it. when you're lucky enough to do meaningful work, put in every ounce of heart and soul

even if just a paycheck at times as a means to an end, live up to your responsibilities and be proud knowing when you rest down your head you've given it your all not for the job but for everything that comes attached in moving you forward. if you stumble (we're all human) you pick yourself up, dust off your knees and keep going

he also taught me to expect that from others. have no patience for victims who make a full time job of excuses not to work

I'm so grateful for those lessons. sad that with your own child you've chosen to be unable to teach them

why not make your own? to bring up my own dad again he was big into wood-working in his spare time, one year when I was way y0ung he made me this elaborate dollhouse that was like 5 ft tall, complete with a balcony and elevator and everything. me and my friends staged so many suicides and homicides off that balcony with our Ken and Barbie dolls cuz that's what little g!rls do. good times

used it as a bookcase for years after, then passed it down to my niece

a couple years back needed some help creating skateboard ramps for my tutoring group and a local furniture maker stepped up. got the k!ds involved in the process, ended up taking the group over to his shop as part of our 'experiencing trades' thing and two of the older in our group are now apprentices with him. there's some quite decent money in that, from weekend work they have paychecks coming in even being in school full time

getting your hands into stuff feels neat, and unlike the AI slop you post your work actually produces something. to either keep or sell. framework? easy peasy. just math, materials and tools. if you don't want to buy the tools (would suggest not for a one off project), rent some time at a local shop

the cushions? material for the various layers and a sewing machine, plus needle and thread for the cushion details. bet one of those older peeps you used to drive around before covid ruined your life has a machine they could rent or lend to you

so not a lot of dollaz in terms of upfront costs, and whatever there are I'm sure the woman supporting you would be thrilled to see you spending money on something other than booze
