bmw 120 m sport

i have never owned or even driven a bmw, never had any interest in that brand... right up until ~one month ago when my car died on the way from london and i rented this thing for a couple of days:

https://pics.fbmhdl.com/bmw120m.jpeg

i ended up keeping it for almost a month right up until my flight to far far away for business... and now i need to purchase exactly the same car. it's just good, it works, it's got the looks, and it's only £35k = one third of range rover price :thumbsup

CaptainHowdy 03-22-2026 10:44 AM

I walk everywhere I go . . . peripathetic, isn't it??

INever 03-22-2026 11:01 AM

best brand.

had a used grey market 323i for abt a decade. the girl drove it first then i had it. top speed was 138mph or was that just a dream.

maybe MINI (made by bmw)... old ones are affordable. 4k usd...

congrats on achieving the Black Man's Wish.

NatalieK 03-22-2026 01:06 PM

i´d leave the 1 series BMW alone...

Common BMW 1 Series problems include timing chain failure on N47/N13 engines, high-pressure fuel pump issues in diesels, and coolant leaks. Other common issues involve electric gremlins (drivetrain warnings), suspension knocking, EGR recalls, and rough idling. Regular oil changes and checking for service history are crucial for longevity

My parents were looking at them & decided against the idea :2 cents:

Duced 03-22-2026 01:06 PM

BMW's are fun. Had a couple of 3 series.

The 3 litre twin turbo is a beast!

Great cars

HAD A STREET M3 THAT WAS FITTED WITH A WICKED DINAN SUPERCHARGER AND OTHER GOODIES , GREAT CAR FOR A WHILE

BUT THE REAL DEAL WAS MY E46 M3 RACE CAR - PREPARED BY THE RACE ARM IN AMERICA FOR BMW - PTG MOTORSPORTS IN VA.

WHEN BMW STARTED RACING THE NEW M3GTR V8 - WAS OUTLAWED SO FAST

see you both mentioned the 3 series, the 1 is flawed :(

& if spending out on a 3, go Nissan & take that thing anywhere, anytime & never see tail lights...

I heard the 1 series 3 litre is a beast.

If I had to get another it would be the M2 or M4 or M8.

Nissan R34 Skyline is a classic.

Or the holy grail the OG Honda NSX.

In 2008 all I wanted to do was live downtown and have a BMW... What a shit car it was, I beat the living fuck out of it and brought it back to the dealership when my lease ended.... clutch was slipping, drivetrain clunked, turbos burned oil...

A co-worker of mine bought a used BMW before COVID when I was working as a manager in a construction company 2017-2019ish... in 6 months he spent like 12k fixing all the leaks, VANOS, suspension... just to have the paddle shift transmission in his car break... and he was told it was a 10k repair job!

Guy lived at home with his parents and 100% of all of his money went to keeping his M3 running! Nothing more expensive than a used BMW or Mercedes out of warranty.

Yeah for real! Owning a bimmer is a cash sink. I had the same. 1k out each month at one point on each of the cars getting things fixed. Same with my friends cars.

But you treat it like a sexy bitch, high maintenence, but a good ride!

Beaver1 03-29-2026 02:25 AM

I owned a BMW twenty years ago and never had any major problems with it;
and when I did, they were covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

20+ years ago, cars were higher quality. Look at how many major car companies now are having engines fail early, electrical problems... cars are meant to make it through the warranty period and then be basically thrown away.

GM's modern 6.2 V8 is such garbage.... where as the 20+ year old LS engines are still good because they didn't have fuck ass "technology" added to them.

I knew two dudes who had 2015+ Silverados and both had engine failures and a ton of other issues. Modern cars are fucking junk.

Wify loves her beamers but recently announced she was selling her latest and replacing with an ebike, suits me I'm the one paying. She previously had an 1 series and it was a great little car.

Cash 4 clunkers was a legit war against affordability for the average person.

So many cars that had good engines, good transmisisons, still drove... and people were paid to destroy the engines and scrap them.

What will take to wake people up to the fact that the rich and powerful jews in charge absolutely loathe the population of western countries?

fuzebox 03-29-2026 11:14 AM

The BMW 1M was a fantastic car, a lot of power for their smallest frame. 135 msport was like 70% of the way there. The N54/N55 for all it's issues was a pretty good tunable motor. Closest thing you can get to it today is an M2 Comp or M240i if you want to same some cash.

All new cars kinda suck though, and will never be as reliable as they used to be. Blame regulation, emission requirements, safety requirements, consumer demand for useless tech, etc. Cars have to be taller so that passengers don't fly over the hood if they get hit, cars need more airbags installed everywhere for safety tests. This adds more size and weight which means the engines have to make more power, except they also have to produce less tailpipe emissions and get higher mpg than they did before. Turbos, direct injection, and now hybrid drivetrains are helping out, except this adds a ton of electronic complexity and tbh between material costs and labor unions, I bet the margin is lower on a new car today than it was 20 years ago, despite them costing 2x as much.

Ya I had the Msport.... the worst part about the 135i was the differential for sure. The e-diff worked like total shit. With traction control fully off at the Mission raceway, my 135i would one-tire fire in multiple places every lap, it was ridiculous!

A real limited slip diff would have made it sooooooooo much better.

Easiest and cheapest to find nowadays, I guess the market has spoken and prefers the R32 :upsidedow

For me it's R34, R32, R35, R33, in that order.

Do you still see many R35s driving around?

Here in the Kelowna area, Corvettes and G-wagons are so common, like you see one every couple of blocks. I just saw a pink G-wagon driving around yesterday. Broncos everywhere, Teslas everywhere, Mustangs everywhere.... even Ferraris, Lambos and Cybertrucks are all much more common than the R35. Where did they all go?

R35's are so rare out here, you see more Rx-8s driving around than R35's, and a running Rx-8 is a total unicorn!

Apparently these folding seats pinned and killed a child recently....

Did nobody test the compression power of these seats? No detecting of resistance? It's 2026... DEI hires, probably. Fucking retarded.

This is like the fucking Tesla Cybertruck's front trunk being like a finger guillotine... zero testing, absolutely retarded.

Everything is getting dumber and worse!

Investing this $100,000 in a few standard ETFs and using the investment income to pay
for flights, Uber, or Grab is the easiest, most stress-free, and most flexible way to get
from A to B these days!

Oh yeah how can I forget about the LFA. Saw one in a local showroom, absolute beauty of an automobile.

The rarity of it makes it expensive.

reason you don´t see many r33 is...

https://www.google.com/search?q=r+33...in+america&rlz

now you´ll see many more around & I can say both my partner & I have driven in r32 & r33, definitely rating the r33 as a more comfortable drive & faster, as the 34 goes, it´s definitely going to be faster as everything was uprated, however...

the 33 is prettier, looks sexier with the curves other than the 35 and yes, the 35 is an intense car, driving to the extremes

that´s my take :winkwink:

It's a shame the golden era of 90s Japanese and German sports are gone.

i would not drive bmw smaller than the 7 series or the x5, but this new 120 m sport is not a small car - it is a perfectly shaped car.

If the 135i had a proper differential, it would have been so much better. Even when turning all DSC / traction control off, it still felt like there was some fuckery happening with the stability control / e-diff.

Coming from an S2000 / GMC Typhoon that I got rid of before I got the 135i, I wanted to get another small car... the 135i is the type of car that totally shines on a test drive but when you actually drive it hard, it always felt like the computer was working against you. Even with everything disabled, the gas pedal didn't feel like it gave you the engine's full power because it would overwhelm the e-diff, and when it did let you have full power, then you'd get a 1-tire fire... Oh well it was still nice to drive chicks around in!

My old Supra in the shot too:

^^^ Nice car!

https://i.ibb.co/zWTJ22dX/sick2000.png

Would be so siiiiiiiiick to have another supercharged S2000, my first one I paid for it with Topbucks, but because the transmissions and differentials are made of glass, it would be a never-ending money pit because you'd have to do a complete custom transmission and I don't remember the transmission tunnel being very big on them. Also you need a totally upgraded differential because you can break them even with the stock horsepower. And then you'd probably want some sort of real roll bar, harness...

Fuck it... I need to buy this $800 Firefly J35 swap convertible instead... probably have 90% of the fun burning the tires off the Firefly for 1% of the price! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh
