For language translation of text?

ChatGPT seems flaky, Claude tends to miss the mark when it comes to nuance.

Are there any decent AI systems floating around just for translation of text?

For straight translation I still end up using DeepL a lot. It usually handles nuance better than most of the general AI tools.

For this particular situation, I'd personally use Gemini.
