Got hit by w32/Pate.b virus!
I must admit, I've been "Blessed" in that a major virus has never given my puter any problems. But late this morning...WHAM, I had like 1500 infected files. Sigh.
I'm using McAffee to try & get rid of it, but it's a MOFU!:BangBang: It HIDES, usually in a .tmp file, and unless I want to re-install windows (which I don't), I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Anyone have any experience dealing with this virus that could recommend something other than McAfee to get rid of it? Thanks! |
Norton's AntiVirus.

Norton should be able to fix this.

I can't seem to if the one you are referring to: http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/auto/index/indexW.html
Are you sure it is called that? To make sure you should try sarc's online scanner: http://security.symantec.com/ssc/hom...JUIYCZRWEJGSSK and hit Scan for Viruses |

Then I un-installed the infected files I could no get cleaned by McAfee's virus scan and re-installed. GOOD NEWS..just did a complete scan and NO SIGN of it! I think what was throwing me off before was that it hid in the windows/temp directory and kept re-infecting after I cleaned everything. |
