Eric was scrolling a social media channel he regularly browsed for porn. Seconds into a video, he froze.

He realised the couple he was watching - entering the room, setting down their bags, and later, having sex - was himself and his girlfriend. Three weeks earlier, they had spent the night in a hotel in Shenzhen, southern China, unaware that they were not alone.

Their most intimate moments had been captured by a camera hidden in their hotel room, and the footage made available to thousands of strangers who had logged in to the channel Eric himself used to access pornography.

I think this is terrible. I think it's outrageous that people do this. I hope the sites can be taken down and those responsible punished.

Of course the initial shock is there - but after contacting the police and the lawyers - the compensation is in the millions and those responsible in jail. Since the hotel chain knew nothing about it - he could get free lodgings added to the package.

You simply can't trust anyone and now anywhere you go. Always do a sweep. Sorry to hear but at least he has options to fight back rather than never finding out

Just been reading about this on the BBC website. It says that Eric was a regular consumer of "spycam porn" before he discovered that he and his girlfriend had become victims of it. This makes me suspicious that he might have set his girlfriend up to be secretly filmed with him having sex with her so that he could be on the "spycam porn" site. So maybe he knew there was a hidden camera. I think it's possible though of course I have no proof. Some men would do that I'm sure.

Perhaps they were so good at it that I was a shame not sharing their performance with the world ? ?

I'm somewhat inclined to agree. a little too convenient that he 'happened' to discover footage on a site he was a part of. at best it was ok when it happened to others but not him, but c'mon, really?

his gf is the real wronged party here. not about the sex aspect, I'd be furious if someone streamed me having a cup of coffee reading a book in what I thought was a private space. massive violation of privacy. certain relief that I don't visit China (too far) or stay in non mom and pop hotels anywhere except for xmas when I bring my fam in and then I'm too happy to care about anything

"hidden camera detectors" are under $50. popular in south korea too.

all these cameras everywhere. earlier generations should've ripped out the first ones.
