Is that the same as that Atkins diet?
|
It called the atkins diet..
Welcome to earth |
similar except you refeed on friday's thru satarday and consume pretty much any food you want , carbs included
|
Low carb diets are good. I lost 170 pounds on Lindora.
|
I still say that it is dangerious to put the body into ketosis for long periods of time, it is in no way natuaral.
Low carbs GREAT no problem, but fuck ballance it out. The Zone diet was pretty good for a more healty choice. Then again I guess if your really huge just go for a gastric bypass. |
A friend of mine went on it and she had to pee on little strips all the time, but it worked pretty well. Unfortunately, once she hit her target weight, she ballooned back up weirdly fast, way faster than after other diets she had done. I eat kinda low carb most of the time myself but not too hardcore. I just feel better when I do. Except I really love potato products.

As with anything in life... no shortcuts

Ketosis makes your urine smell funny, and gives you horrible breath.

It's a good diet to lose 20 pounds or so fast, or if you have some stubborn poundage that won't come off, a good way to reach your target weight.
The only way to come off of the diet without becoming a blimp though is to wean yourself back onto carbs and at the same time gradually lower your fat intake as well. You also need to throw in some cardio and at least some light weight training to keep your metabolism up. One example of how to use a low carb diet to achieve your goals is this: Diet: Full-on Atkins for 30 days (consuming less than 20gms/carb per day) Activity: First Week:] Walk 30 minutes ONE DAY Second Week: Walk 30 minutes TWO DAYS Third Week: Walk 30 minutes THREE DAYS + 20 minutes light weights ONE DAY (you can do walking and weights on the same day if you prefer) Fourth Week: Walk 30 minutes FOUR DAYS + 20 minutes light weights TWO DAYS (again, you can do walking and weights on the same day if you prefer) By the end of the thirty days not only have you lost some weight fairly quickly by using the Atkins diet, you are well on your way to making exercise a HABIT, not a chore. Over the next 30 days, gradually increase your carb intake (by 5gms per week) while decreasing your fat intake until you are eating a well-balanced diet. In addition, each week try to add 5-10 minutes to your exercise schedule until you hit one hour total exercise per day, 4-5 times per week. At the end of the 60 days you should be 20-30+ pounds down (depending on the amount of weight you need to lose) AND have well-developed exercise habits, but ONLY if you stick to it religiously. The one downfall to the low carb diet is that you absolutely CANNOT cheat. Once you go out of ketosis you're doing more harm than good by shoving a bunch of fat down your throat everyday. Using Keto Stix (Drugstore.com is out of stock but you can get them at any local pharmacy. They are usually kept behind the counter so you'll have to ask the pharmacist for them) is a must to make sure that you maintain your ketosis during your diet. Several foods have a ton of hidden carb (many vegetables). You may want to print out the Carb Counter located at the Atkin's website. The site also has tons of recipes and low carb breads etc for you to buy. (Check with your local grocery store for low carb breads, etc, as many now carry these foods MUCH cheaper than you can buy on the site) It may seem complicated, but it really is the fastest way to make a change. :) |
Do a search for "Atkins", we've discussed it many times, but this is my favorite argument. If you low-carb during the week, then carb load on the weekend, you will throw yourself out of ketosis, and it takes approximately 24-72 hours to get back into ketosis after reinducting. So you would only experience a few days of actual ketosis, and limited if any weight loss. I've lost 58 lbs. in 10 months by staying at <30 grams per day. I don't consider that a shortcut, and it has made me able to control my diabetes w/o oral meds. along with improving every other aspect of my blood work - cholesterols, triglycerides, etc.
DANDR, page 63 - "Research shows that chronic ketosis without caloric restriction poses no danger to your heart, kidneys, blood or bone health". I can quote the actual references for that statement, if you're interested. |

VA2K, you shouldn't be doing zero carbs, try adding in carbs (should be mostly in the form of vegetables), and you should see the loss resume.

Great post Magick :) That regimen will definitely make you drop 20-30.
The only thing I'd add is the importance of drinking ALOT more water than most people are used to. Like at least 1oz of water per pound of bodyweight. Every single time I wasn't losing weight - even though I should have been - it was because I wasn't having enough water. |
Ever tried working out? I heard it helps.
