Using AI to restore and 'upgrade' retro porn movies
 

Pornhub a few years ago started converting some (very) old B&W vintage erotic movies to color, and 'enhanced' them a bit. I haven't seen much more of this type of thing, even though AI has come on spectacularly in the last 3 years.

I'm surprised people aren't not only remastering 60s and 70s classics, but also shaving their hairy pussies and the like. I know retro porn fans will say that defeats the whole point, but I think a modern audience would like it.

Are most of the 60s and 70s movies still under copyright law? I guess using AI editing on old adult movies might also be legally hazardous with deepfake porn laws, even if the actresses might no longer be around.

I guess it's still a lot of manual work to get good result with AI.

Everyone now offers AI models, some suck, some are decent, the challenge atm is to find a suitable software in the jungle who can deliver results. Likely in 5 years it's even better.

Is it even worth it? The people who like retro porn like it because its retro. If you add color and take out the film grain all you're left with is god-awful scratchy stinky BUSH.

Not really, but it does have me curious. I have a book I keep like a sacred artifact called Diableries. These were stereoscopic (rest in piece Mark Kernes) images that started as bible stories, pics of heaven, and of course hell became the most popular part. Until 2018, everything I'd seen of them had been in black and white, photocopied, in zines, on the interwebs, etc. Brian May of Queen had an incredible restoration done, including the hand coloring of the original images. It's an amazing book.

I can definitely see some value in vintage smut given an upgrade. I'm also curious to see some of the golden age stuff with a high-definition look. To see 70s Annie Sprinkle and Désirée Cousteau in HD sounds pretty cool.

To some degree, but I'm sure many like me enjoy watching the kind of porn we grew up with, but in our rose-tinted nostalgia had forgotten just how much hair they had back then.

Of course, you could also 'retro' modern porn - using AI to give the actresses hairy bushes, remove their tattoos and duck filler lips, give the actors moustaches, add a cheesy soundtrack, add the film grain...

Those degenerate camera operators from the 70s 80s and 90s loved focusing on the man’s face as he busted a nut. It ruined so many scenes that needs to be edited out.
