The tech companies lobbied government for ID verification
 

Social media - search engines - Gmail - Microsoft- porn sites *want* ID verification and they're pressuring governments to enforce it. It's a relationship in which the government's role is to pretend to be the bad guys. These corporations have the power to stop it, but they play along while pretending to resist.

So get it straight. This isn’t about protecting kids. If it were, they would've acted 15+ years ago. Instead Gen Z and many Millennials grew up exposed to far worse content than porn.

Here's some guesses why they want it

Bots probably out number real people.

India and 3rd world nations run non-stop scams, creating millions of fake accounts and profiles in the process.

Monetization of content piracy. EG: Videos on youtube get hacked up and recycled on TikTok.

Content creators are both problematic and inconsistent.

Advertising conversion rates aren't as good as they use to be.

The tech companies ARE the gov, spooks, etc.

There are sites that drill down and show this. "All of them" are in on it.

if that's the truth, then it would be really convenient if they would let us use their verifications like they allow social login.

making every dotcom in the world figure out their own AV is fucking retarded. create one system and adopt it. we don't have 70 thousand different WIFI protocols.

Why don't we just require everyone to log onto the Internet with a government ID?
