Ozzy Osbourne is no more. It hardly seems possible. He was one of those iconic rock characters who appeared indestructible. He was the self-styled Prince of Darkness, the original heavy metal horrormeister, the hard-drinking, drug-snorting, bat-biting manic clown who practically invented the iconography of music’s darkest genre with his predilection for capes, crosses and tattoos. In his prime, he was rock’s most lunatic frontman, whose unpredictable behaviour brought a lunatic edge to the sinister sonic aggression of his band Black Sabbath.

In later years, when over-indulgence had taken a toll on his health and old age and infirmity restricted his scope for nonsense, he rose again with a comic charm that emphasised the humour that has always lurked beneath metal’s posturing Guignol. And somehow, in the process, one of rock’s most notorious monsters became a beloved household family favourite. He was absolutely one of a kind: unafraid to be ridiculous, inherently funny, and absolutely in love with music.

As a kid there was a rumor he would bite off bat heads on stage and drink its blood.

Don't know if that was true or not, but that's all I knew about bro besides his obnoxious wife rambling with her annoying voice on TV every now and then.

RIP to the guy.

True Legend!

One of a kind.

Didn’t make it ti his farewell concert in Birmingham on July 5th, but those who were there claim that he - although sitting - still outperformed everyone else who stood on the scene in the ten hour long goodbye show.

Again,

The real prince of darkness is his wife Sharon. She screwed over people like Jake E Lee and also kept Ozzy drugged up when their reality show was filming.

I was never a fan but you have appreciate him. RIP.

It makes you wonder what that last concert was about. Did he know he was about to die, or did the concert do him in?

Not a drug proponent but seems to me he lived a pretty full, long and influential life and will be remembered for as long as people like music.

Saw him first at Ozzfest in '99. Great memories. Have seen him probably 5 times, always a gracious host.

RIP.

I grew up with Ozzy during the 70s and on when most were listening to Disco LOL.

He was always his own person not caving to anyone and living the life of not just a rock star but the "fucking prince of darkness".

Sadly I don't know what's going to happen with Sharon since they had an agreement that if one passed the other would go to Switzerland for assisted suicide since they didn't want to live without each other.

Sharon flew it Switzerland a day or two ago.

RIP Ozzy

Paranoid was an amazing piece of poetry. when I heard he died I punished everyone around me by singing that track, still recall every lyric

not my style music-wise but a def legend. hope he enjoyed the crazy train and he no doubt did

Theo Huxtable was a little rough around the edges, but I wouldn't call him the Prince of Darkness.

76 is nothing these days...basically dying before 80 is a choice these days, caused mainly by a horrible lifestyle.
