How do producers deal with no-shows?
 

Say you have a b/g shoot planned, the girl is already present but the male performer doesn't show up. Do you still pay the girl in full and accept the loss? What is the norm?

I have had variations of the above happen over the years. I have just tried to make the best of a bad situation. You have the talent, just shoot her anyway. Why pay for nothing. This is where a deep rolodex can help you out of a jam. Get on the phone and see if anyone can help you out. You could be surprised.

Not a producer.... but I have heard you pay a kill fee (10-20% of the rate) and reschedule with new male talent... and you never hire that no-show male talent again and you tell all of your producer/director friends that he no-showed.

Absolutely this. Many dentists and doctors charge a cancellation fee to their patients if they cancel or don't show.

I personally think reimagine your shoot, quick rewrite (irl, script people are on set rewriting scenes all the time) and re i.d. the clapper board. Be creative and get product.
A kill fee should only be paid if you caused the problem. I have been around this block a few times. Shit happens.

Unless you have another male talent there in 30 minutes you should work something out with the female talent to salvage the shoot by changing the focus of the content, pay her more money for waiting, or just give her a kill fee. Anything can happen including the girl getting an attitude and ruining the shoot if she does not like the replacement. If you give her a kill fee pay a little extra and ask her to shoot some promotional content.
Often these girls have plans/work immediately after your shoot so it can cause a stressful situation. Plus her loser boyfriend will get demanding via calls and texts to her and maybe even to you.

Shoot solo masturbation with the girl. Do a jerk-off instruction video. Go POV with the cameraman (or yourself). Get some content out of the situation. Failing that, give the girl 20% and call it a day. She got paid for doing nothing.

We ONLY shoot lesbians, so NONE of us on the crew can "whip it out"... and since we only shoot scripted stuff, we add into the cast a small role just to fill the screen, and if there is a NO show ( happens very rarely on the day), we just " promote" the small role into a bigger one with more money and its done...

In about 25 years we had an actress NO show 2 x....and even these were later proved to be legitimate. WE of course have a solid actor contracts (with penalties) signed weeks before the shoot.

Most of the models don’t care about tests. Absolute fact. And if you disagree then you have not had these girls throw pussy at you. In my experience most women don’t care about protection at all. When they want to fuck you out of pure attraction I think their brain is telling them to get impregnated. I think the only subsets of females who routinely insist on condoms are escorts. If I was a female I would insist on guys taking a good shower immediately before sex of any kind.

Here is another situation that isn't a "no show" but leads to a similar result:

Both male and female performers appear, they start fucking but the male shoots too early and can't get it up for another round. The scene is incomplete and mostly unusable. Now what? Does something like the kill fee work here? I have recently experienced this and the model wanted the full pay :Oh crap - sure, not her fault, but not my fault too.

get creative. Shoot a jerk off scene of him watching one of your scenes on a computer. Write a description like the horny cuck or some such. Intercut and update. There is always a way.

Female talent performed and would have been able to continue. She deserves the full pay.

Your guy didn't. Next time, consider getting another guy that can perform.

There's sometimes the option to do other positions or do solo/intro to add time to the scene, but it may not always be doable depending on your script or how your scene format is usually.

If the guy shoots too soon you are not using a pro.
