That's not an equivalent comparison. If someone is good at converting gallery traffic into signups, that has absolutely no indication of how they'll do in the SE world. It's not the same mentality you need to use when it comes down to the marketing.
And as well you need to consider the tiers in traffic quality. SE traffic converts very well because webmasters can target according to their needs based on the keywords and country of origin. Galleries are typically hit-and-miss, you hope the surfer will get turned on by the gallery enough to want to buy. So although there might be 100,000 impressions to a gallery, maybe 500-2000 people will click through and maybe 5-15 will buy. With 100,000 SE impressions, you can get at least 100 signups from this. Comparing gallery webmasters and SE webmasters is not a comparison you can make analogies to when it comes to traffic quality. And I re-itterate, there are some SEO's out there that are available for hire, but the really good ones who can convert the traffic will likely not be. Regardless, the good ones are certainly not underworked.
