T1 or DSL
What are you views? T1 or DSL? I would think T1 for realiablity.

I have a t1 at work and cable at home, my cable gets 2200k down (no shit) and my t1 only gets 850k:(
|
If you are going to have a server you will want a T1. If you are just using a client then they will both work and T1 will be more relieable but much more expensive in almost all cases.

Cable

another vote for cable..
especially if your cable company offers different packages based on speeds |
hell no, not cable. I love cable, but in my offices area, it is adelphia, and they are bad. I wouldn't go with them, but then at home i have Time Warner, and that is good shit, i get about 2000 down. but i'll probably go with T1 because my DSL line cuts out two or three times a day while uploading a 200 meg scene and i have to start over.

Depends of the service level that you want.
If you want immediate service for problems (downtime) go with cable. If you can go 24 hours with no Internet then go with DSL or Cable. Either way, the quality of the bandwidth is about the same. |
here i used to have cable and I thought it's great, then i got DSL and this shit rocks, 3mbit download and i can upload 80kb/s compare to shitty cable 100kb/s download and 15 kb/s upload
|
You have to understand the difference a cable and DSL they both share the lines with everybody else to the local switch box, so it can be fast and slow who knows?
With a T1 you pay for your own dedicated line to the switch box so your connections speeds with the T1 will be more stable you are not sharing with anybody. Once it goes past the local switch box then it's all the same. |
Yea, I think it might just be T1, for the speed, because it isn't worth spending half a day trying to upload a movie, because the DSL connection keeps disconnecting...ya know? do you guys think so?

DSL never disconnects for me, and i got 2

I have all three in different locations, but our big overnight uploads are all done by T1. |

For instance, Verio DSL in manhattan used to be sold using a loop from covad. Verio only had a T1 into Covad's DSL cloud. Guaranteed bandwidth my ass. However, Optimum Online (cablevision's cable modem) in the same area is OFF THE HOOK. So, the best advice is ask people in your area. Oh, and if you want to be a pedant, a T1 is an HDSL pair. |
Our t1s arent hdsl pairs, they're actually a channelized ds3 terminated at the sub end FYI ;-) actual fiber.

I was told that when on DSL you don't share lines like you do with cable....that isn't true? |
