"Inapropriate Website"

My 7-year old son Danny thought it would be interesting to see what happens if he innocently typed in danny.com

He told me that he found an "inappropriate website". But he said he "kinda liked it", and that he has it saved forever in his bookmarks.

Good thing his name isn't "Collegefuckfest"

And he told me I couldn't delete it, because he knows how to disable all the blocks we've put on his computer.

Shit.

So let's see if my computer kung-fu is strong enough to stop a 7 year old. I actually doubt it.

how so? i didn't mean it to be insulting - it truelly would have been completely fuck'n hysterical - to have your son run across the porn site you run - and make commments on it

SteveLightspeed 05-29-2003 01:29 AM

I dont know...my parents never blocked me from porn when I was a kid, and I turned out... oh shit, nevermind. :)

at least he uses the term "inappropriate sites" my son just calls out to his mother "mom, dad's looking at naked ass again"

PowerCum 05-29-2003 02:14 AM

You can install a proxy on your box (there are several free ones). Then make your browser to use the proxy and block the undesired content at the proxy.
It's not the best idea, but at least it will make your kid have to work a bit more to disable the protection. And if you want make him work a bit little more, install a firewall and block all the IPs of the servers that provide porn (for exampe 209.247.216.23 and 209.247.216.24 for blocking danny.com site).
If your kid disables the firewall and the proxy in no time you should buy him a book about network security and network management, perhaps you have a little h4x0r at home. Do not blame at him, teach him. Perhaps he will be your next security and network admin... who knows :)

John3 05-29-2003 03:29 AM

the minute that yahoo is deemed an "inappropriate" site, let me know.

MagicksAntics 05-29-2003 09:07 AM

Take the power cord :)

OR do what we do: my daughters (ages 6 and 9) have their own computer which is in the family room right beside the tv. The moniter is facing the sofa so that if I'm watching a movie etc I can see exactly what they are doing.

Their only internet connection is an external USB wireless connection. If I can't moniter their surfing, then I fucking yank the reciever and take it with me. They can still play all their games etc, but can't surf.

Overboard? Maybe...but in my opinion a 6 year old and a 9 year old have no business surfing the net unattended.

Overboard? Hardly... the worst that could happen goes a lot further than them just accidentally seeing some porn (pedo's and such in chatrooms, for example), so watching out is absolutely necessary imo :2 cents:

Bex 05-29-2003 09:24 AM

Haha ... the kid is starting out young eh? Danny.com

5 bucks says the 7 year old can hack through anything you put up to block him :1orglaugh

C-Bass 05-29-2003 09:30 AM

Let the hackin beggin!

Tipsy 05-29-2003 09:51 AM

The easiest way is simply to split the video and have the second feed going to a small TV somewhere you can see. They disable it they don't get PC access it's as simple as that.

There's a company in the UK does one for under $150 that's wireless. You just take the receiver to any tv in the house and can watch it there. It's the only way my daughter will be allowed to use the Internet when she's old enough. Small portable TV's to put someone visible in the main room or office are cheap enough.

Good luck man, I know a 10 yr old girl who is on IRC, has two pc's - one windows one bsd - and she knows far too much for her age.

Unmonitored internet access is not so good...

You named your son "Yahoo?"

pornguy 05-30-2003 12:33 PM

I would highly sugguest that you work real hard on you computer Kung Fu and you may even want to start working on your verbal Judo skills.

If he happens to tell a friend, it could get nasty.

Guess what happens if he is best friends with a kid named Richard, and everyone calls him dick.

hyper 05-30-2003 12:38 PM

buy the domain for him

candyflip 05-30-2003 01:15 PM

loverboy 05-30-2003 02:37 PM
