i am logged in as root and type mysql> but is says access denied for [email protected] i think i fucked something up afew days back

Basically i wanna get into mysql and play around

/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u root -p

Yer, sounds like the permissions table is screwed if you can't get in as root from localhost.

There is a script that comes with mysql for resetting it I believe. There's a guide here:
