Anyone using them? If so check this speed test and tell me what you are doing... I just ordered it and want to know what to expect... dont want to have to get a cable connection as backup.

Bellsouth DSL tested at: 1.3 mbs
Cox Cable tested at: 2.5 mbs

I believe that bellsouth caps the speed at 1.5.
Cox always tests above 2 sometimes over 3

Compared to all connection types worldwide, yours is fantastic

I've used bellsouth DSL for over two years, my connection is damn near 1.5 at all times, but the guy said we're about 300 feet from a CO. Solid as fuck, I think it only fucked up for a few hours on one occasion.

I think cable is generally better, but it wouldn't be all that great if you live in a neighborhood with a bunch of college kids or something, since the bandwidth is supposedly shared.

Band width is shared on cable. And if you live in an apt complex or in a highly populated area, you are sharing with everyone on a 2 to 4 block radius...


And some times those slow down times and last..

if you need the constant speed, with no drop, then dsl is the best. if you dont mind the wait at 6pm, then go cable.

I was on BellSouth DSL from Oct '99 untill Dec 02, we moved now and I'm a little too far for DSL service.

It was a very stable connection, at first there were problems with down time but BS got their act together fast and since early 2000 up untill we left I've had not more than 2-3 major outages.
My speeds were up to 154KB/sec and 14000ft from the Central Office.
I lived near Pompano beach, FL and was routed thru Miami though, because I got the DSL as they were just doing the big rollouts.

The only drawback is you have to have the complete choice bullshit, unless you use it of course. If they do like Verizon and give out DSL for $34.95/$29.95 with Complete Choice, I might switch

If you decide to go with DSL, don't get the USB modem it tends to be flaky with WindowsXP, Ethernet is much better

Cable modem here in Montgomery County PA.

I had Verizon ADSL 640k, it sucked balls totally, I lived near the CO ( and I worked for an ISP that was selling the Covad and Northpoint at that time in the area)

Just really never got the job done for me in terms of speed or reliability, always had CO problems in that area.

That's fucked up. I'm paying $140.00/mo for DSL and only $40.00/mo for RoadRunner. I've gotta say that the DSL is more reliable and more consistent than RoadRunner.

If you don't need static IP's then go with the BellSouth Residential Fast Access DSL Service for $45.00/mo
